The Forgotten Pontiac G8

Anyone remember the original Pontiac G8 concept?

LS1, AWD, from 2001's auto season.

Although I myself am glad that we're getting a proper RWD sports sedan, but I still think this G8 had potential. Perhaps as a G6 with an equally powerful V6?

Opinions?

"GTO-style spoiler"
How did they know what the GTO spoiler would look like more than two years before they knew they were going to build a GTO?
Also that is what they made with the Grand Prix GXP with the LS4, without the AWD ofcourse.

I'm glad they will be pointing the engine in the right direction.

I remember it. I thought it was pretty sweet. AWD + LS1 without the weight of a truck...

A nice reminder of how much better that generation of GP looks than the current one. Except for the boy-racer hood and spoiler on that concept, of course.

They're talking about the 69 Judge. It had a similar looking spoiler.

Yeah, I liked the looks of the previous GP better as well versus the newer models. I am guilty of forgetting about that particular car, just seeing it now makes me say "wow" all over again. An LS1 backed up by an AWD drivetrain.

Just because we're getting a proper RWD G8 in 2008 doesn't mean that GM wasn't lax for not making an AWD or even FWD V8 Pontiac sedan.

Car and Driver said the Grand Prix GXP was a great idea that would have been cooler ten years ago, and I have no doubt it's true. A V8 GXP in 2000 would have blown away the competition and sold like hot cakes. Same for an AWD G6 with a serious V6.

Looks good to me...I can't recall if I ever saw it back in 01 or not. I actually like the spoiler on it, at least what I can see of it.

I would have bought that right after college back in 2001 if they had built it.

The original G6 concept had a supercharged V6 with AWD, making around that amount of power, IIRC. It also looked much sportier than the production car.
