New BMW 1 series The car we have all been waiting for...

Well a lot of you Camaro guys, including myself, wished for a smaller rear wheel drive performance car. Something way under the 3800lbs mark.

Well the BMW 1 series might be your ticket, touted as beeing BMW's return to a drivers car and said to be 300lbs lighter then the 3 series (so a tad over 3000lbs) and will be available with the 300 hp twin turbo V6 ...300 hp.

Now keep in mind the heavier 3 series is good for mid 13's with that engine.

Pricing estimated from 25 to 35G, that's camaro and mustang pricing.

Sounds like a pretty nice car.

Probably 3400 pounds with the turbo engine. I'd guess 3200 for a stripper with the NA engine.
Still, a 3200 pound 260/225 RWD coupe would be a sweet car.

Unfortunately, most in the midwest (Chicago excepted, perhaps?) subscribe to the "bigger is better" philosophy. But the Alpha platform should produce something similar from GM eventually, as long as Alpha is not cancelled.

Leave me out of the "all" catagory.

I wouldn't have a POS BMW in ANY form....over-rated junk.....

Tell me about it. My kid's M3 is a money pit. 6 months later and we're trying to unload it for $5k less than we paid for it. (Not to mention $5k in maintenance and repairs it required during the same timeframe.)

I love BMWs when they're under warranty.

Outside of that - no thanks.

That 1-series looks like it could be neat. I had no idea they were going to fit the TT 3.0 in there. That thing should definitely haul some nuts. I drove the 335i and was very impressed with it overall - especially the power and response of the drivetrain...

I should of added a winky smiley, I know how most here feel about BMW or many imports and there was some sarcasum in the title although I see now there is no way for anyone to see it hehe.

I do have to add that, the recipe is that of success I would have to say.

My 22 year old BMW treats me just fine. But i heard there quality went down hill in the early to mid 90's.

The main problem with BMWs recently have been the electronics. The ones without all the crap are pretty solid cars.

The 3-series is the best of the bunch, and they definitely aren't junk.

I like our BMW, it's far from over-rated junk.

I don't like my mom's X3. It feels cold and robotic. The car seems to want nothing to do with the driver but transport it. But maybe that's just because it's an X3.

So what the hell do they say they've been making all this time? I thought BMWs were the ultimate driving machine?

I'm in the BMWs are crap camp. My brother is a big BMW guy and he's had nothing but trouble with his. His last 7 series needed a whole new wiring harness @ 70,000 miles.

But, I've been dying for a turbo 6 and this engine already has some good affordable aftermarket options available for it. This is going to be an awesome car.

I think this is the coolest BMW in years and I think I'll like this car a lot. Except for the being priced like a BMW part. "Starting at $25,000" means that you won't be able to find one for less than $30,000, which is a lot for that type of car.

But it's a start. I'm jst glad that SOMEONE is giving us a small RWD 4 seat car.
