I have a 97 LT1, and i have pace setter LT's, and off road Y pipe, and i just took off my borla, and i wanted to try somthing different, i was think if just running a borla race muffler, or saving up and going with a corsa, but if ne one has any sound clips or pics of there set close to mine it would be great

isn't the XR1 basically the muffler that borla uses on the cat back?
it's jsut mounted in the back with the Cutout before it.
i doubt it will sound much different, depending on where yo put the muffler anyway.
cheaper muffler for similar sound would be the magnaflow 4x9s

The XR-1 is not the muffler from their 4th Gen cat-back. Its a short (12"), oval, straight-through muffler with very little sound reduction. I run a pair of 3" XR-1's, bolted to the collectors, with 3" straight pipes back to the axle, and turndowns. Its too loud to pass noise level limits at our local track (Englishtown), which requires no more than 90dB at 100-ft. Even if it passed the noise level, it does not meet the track's minimum muffler requirement of at least 3 chambers.

Does are cars run better with just open headers or with a cat back, with minor mods done to the car,

You'll make the most HP with the most free flowing system. Hence, may people run cutouts and make more power. The danger of running an open header is the proximity of the O2 sensors. If they get a backwash of air at part load, it throws the sensors off and causes the engine to run rich.
