5.0 vs LT1 vs 400

Alright, so a while back I went to the track with a few friends. My friend Matt has an early 90's 5.0 mustang, and he also has a 69 (I think) firebird with a 400. I've got a 94 Z28 and all three our cars ran 11.6-11.8 in the 1000ft. He put a set of slicks on the mustang and it will take down the firebird, running 11.4s.

As far as we know, all the mustang has is headers and exhaust, I don't know the specs on the firebird, but I know they have 6 grand into the engine alone. As for my LT1, I've got hooker catback and an electric cutout.

I was always under the assumption that the late 5.0s (still old body style) shouldn't be a problem for me to run down on the track. Granted, it has fewer miles, and is a stick... whereas my Z has 133k and is auto. I was pretty disappointed in the Z, and he was even more disappointed in the firebird. Is something above average on the mustang? Or is something wrong with my LT1, and his firebird?

Fox body crustangs are actually light, especially the notch backs.

Did he build the motor in the 5.0? Aint no stock internal 5.0 is going to run that good without a hefty shot of the gas, or decent cam and GT-40 heads-atleast.

On the other hand, your F-bodys are heavy as crap...prob. around 3500 pounds while that stang only weighs 3200,probably less. So theres 3 tenths right there.

P.S. Why is the racing only to 1,000ft? No full 1/4 tracks near you?

Thats what I was going to say. Not to much people refer to 1000'. Its always 1/8 or 1/4 mile.

No 1/4 miles in the state of Arkansas... gay.

Anyways, that was my point with him... I told him that stock internals wouldn't lay those numbers down on the 5.0, he doesn't know if it's stock or not... but he thinks it is. And as for the firebird, with a 125 shot it ran 10.6, 11.7 without spray. I found out more specs on the firebird engine... it's a 400 bored .30 over with edelbrock heads and intake, and carb. and a cam.

The mustang ran an 11.2 with slicks last weekend. What's up?
