electric supercharger

ive been hearing alot about these electric superchagers. has anyone used one or know of someone whoe has. how do they perform?

I once hooked a powerful 2-stroke leaf blower to a Subaru Brat, and it made no noticeable difference. That was a few HP of air pump, or maybe 2000 - 3000 watts. Electric 12V, that power would require hundreds of amps. An electric blower can't possibly do enough work on the air to significantly compress the large volume feeding an engine, unless it is pulling a few kW of power, and is optimized for the flow rate and pressure. Imagine what a small electric blower motor can get you......zilch. Or maybe reduced performance, because of the added inlet restriction when it can't keep up. If you want to add any kind of fan for performance improvement, use it to cool something hot, not feed air to the motor.

It all depends on the assumptions. I am assuming you refer to the typical cheap ebay electric supercharger, not a high powered, electrically driven centrifugal supercharger. The latter would actually work, but I don't know if any exist. A belt drive would be more efficient, so the only reason I can think of to make one electric drive would be for a hidden, remote mounted one.

There's a video on youtube somewhere of leaf blowers hooked up to a small displacement engine (very little CFM) on a dyno...they showed a small gain...they then proceded to spray nitrous into the inlet of the leaf blower...saw another small gain...

So, theoretically...if the engine you're using this electric supercharger on is small enough, it would work...or like previously stated you managed to create an electric pump powerful enough.

Either way...the leaf blowers they used in that video are wayyyyy more powerful than any pos electric supercharger you see on ebay...most of those things look like hair dryers.

And any of these previously mentioned leaf blowers, or hair dryer superchargers will never, ever, ever, ever, f'ing work on your camaro.
