Shon Herron 06-18-2007, 10:17 PM From this thread:
PAC Beehive GP discussion (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526877)
there was alot of interest for these springs. I have spoken with Chris at PAC about doing this GP thru Herron Performance and he says it is fine. I also have recieved a few emails wanting these springs ASAP.
I have loaded the PAC 1218s and 1518s on my website under Group Purchases. The sooner we get 5 paid orders the sooner this will be a go, the pricing is based on 10 paid orders but know you guys will come thru and to shorten the wait time I only want 5 paid orders.
Logistically this is what has to happen, the springs will be ordered and shipped to my business and then the next day they will go out via UPS, this could actually take up to 8 days once the order has been placed with PAC but I think this is an exceptional deal and others have stated that they could not offer this level of pricing.
Pricing for the 1218s is $120 shipped to your door. And the 1518s are $200 shipped.
PAC Beehive Spring GP (http://www.herronperformance.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=72)
I accept paypal at shon@herronperformance.com or there is a PP option on the website. If you would like to pay with Credit Card let me know and I will call you to get this information over the phone.
Spread the word, this seems to be everyone's answer to the 918 failures so let others know what Herron Performance is doing at this time to help you guys out.
EDIT:
I have placed the order for 10 1218s and 10 1518s, I know you guys are going to pull this thru, even though I have only got payment for 4.
GP will end on June 30th.
Once Springs are recieved they will go out in the order in which I was paid. I expect these to be inhouse by Friday and go out UPS on Monday and customer should have them on Wed.

Z28LT1_Just_Nasty 06-19-2007, 06:15 PM When are you looking to purchase? I won't have any money to spend on springs til this weekend?
mpayne 06-19-2007, 06:47 PM I want to order the 1218's. What is the original price on these springs? About how many miles will they last with .575" lift. Will they be more short lived than comp cams 987 dual springs?
How much for the associated locks, retainers, etc. that I'll need to go along with them?
bdc95ta 06-19-2007, 07:08 PM I'm sorry guys I've been busy I'll place an order when I get back, taking the family out to eat.

Ovrclck350 06-19-2007, 07:45 PM I'll order a set as soon as I confirm what hardware to use. Does the 918 10 degree hardware work with these?
Ovrclck350 06-19-2007, 08:42 PM I just ordered a set of the 1218's.
bdc95ta 06-19-2007, 08:55 PM Money sent for the 1518's. How many more do we need?

Thanks for reminding me AZ2ENVY.

I was thinking about this and think that middle of next week or the end of that week shutting it down, rewarding those that did not procrastinate.
Ovrclck350 06-19-2007, 08:59 PM How many more on the 1218s?
marshall93z 06-19-2007, 09:00 PM Which ones would be better for the GM847? Too lazy to look at the specs right now. :(

PAC 1218s are 183.71 plus shipping from PAC.
I will get back with you on the locks/retainers/locators needed. The 10* locks is the way to go.

Yes.

marshall93z 06-19-2007, 09:07 PM Hmmm, I just looked at the specs and they both install and coil bind at the same height, BUT the 1218 says .600" max lift and the 1518 says .650'?? How does that work out?
Hell, they have the same spring rates and everything. What ARE the differences in them?
marshall93z 06-19-2007, 09:10 PM Ok, only difference I see is "Premium Nitrided". I guess that's what makes the 1518s better than the 1218s. :)
bdc95ta 06-19-2007, 09:12 PM check out the other thread.
basicly the nitrided coating and the nano shot peening.

Thanks for the info on what I'm looking at to run these springs.
I wasn't planning on running beehives but this is a great deal and these springs are what is recommended for the comp xfi 230/236 cam I'll be running.
For now I'm going to just get the 1218 springs because I just bought the cam, timing chain, oil pump, etc. and have to space out my spending a little bit.
I'll paypal you tomorrow afternoon for them.
Thanks
Michael

Hell, they have the same spring rates and everything. What ARE the differences in them?
Dimensions are the same and a 1518 actually starts it's life as a 1218. The 1218 will allow up to .650" lift without coil bind issues, but we recommend our PAC-1518 for anything above .600 lift because of the higher stress range. It's also a better spring for engines that will be turning higher RPMs and can take the extra punishment of aggressive cam lobes. The nitriding and other added processes we do give the springs even better fatigue life. I have ran the 1518 from free length to solid on our testers and haven't been able to break one after double our normal test length.
The PAC-1518 gets a lot of the same processing that our Cup springs get.
Both springs are a steal from Shon so I suggest you get them while you can!
Shon Herron 06-20-2007, 11:18 AM Both springs are a steal from Shon so I suggest you get them while you can!
This will not happen again after June 30th!
mpayne 06-20-2007, 08:16 PM I sent paypal for the springs this morning. Thanks again!
I have a question about my setup. Will the 1218's be adaquete for the cam I'm running or should I upgrade to the 1518's? The cam is a comp cams XFI series part # 08-467-8. Duration at .050" lift is 230 intake/ 236 exhaust. Advertised duration is 280 intake/ 288 exhaust. .576" intake lift/ .570" exhaust lift. Thanks for any info on this.
Shon Herron 06-20-2007, 09:26 PM Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.576 int./0.570 exh. lift
Are you using 1.6 Rockers? If so the lift becomes 0.614/0.608.
Based on the recommendations from the company, I would go with the 1518s but that is your choice.
I sent paypal for the springs this morning. Thanks again!

Yeahdoug 06-20-2007, 10:09 PM If you're on the stock rockers the 1218s will work fine. If not I'd definitely upgrade to the 1518s. With Shons pricing you can get a set of 1518s for the retail price of a set of 1218s so IMO it's worth it to upgrade either way.
mpayne 06-21-2007, 10:27 AM The .576"/.570" lift is with 1.6:1 rockers, which I will be using.
JodyJ 06-21-2007, 01:25 PM Sent payment via paypal for the 1518 springs and hardware.

Shon Herron 06-22-2007, 07:39 AM 8 total orders so far.
June 30th this GP closes.
speed_demon24 06-22-2007, 02:13 PM I might be in on this if I can't get my new springs to fit, how long would it take to get the 1518's? And what is coilbind on those springs, the website lists 1.14", but if you install them at 1.8" and have a 650 lift cam that brings them down to 1.15" right there, .01" away from coilbind. The reason I'm asking is my 918's are setup at 1.75" from Lloyd and my cam has .600 lift and I just wanted to make sure I wont be running into coilbind issues.

I expect the springs to be in today or Monday and they will go out to the paid orders the next day.
I am not going to answer coil bind issues with the specs they have listed, I feel this is a loaded question, we all can do the math and then there is the margin if safety each person must feel comfortable with, I will leave that up to you.

Actual coilbind is around ~ 1.080" I'll update the website :)
1.140" is the CB number Comp uses for it's 918 which is what I used to quickly make the site. That is a very conservative number.
Sorry for the confusion.

No problem I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a change in the design or anything that changed the coil bind height.

I also have .600 valve lift and 918s from Lloyd. When I turn the motor over with the lifters full/hard, the coils have considerable airspace left between them. You might try that - I found it reassuring. However, I do NOT know what install height Lloyd used. They are LE2 heads from Dec 2006. LE3.3 cam.

91Z-28 07-01-2007, 03:36 AM I just started reading up on all of the 918 failures and am now considering taking my 918s out of my new heads and replacing them with 1518s. How much would you charge for just the titanium retainers to go with them? I already have the rest of the hardware since my new ported TFS heads have 918s in them.

I can't say for sure but I want to say they are 10*. I could ask the shop that built my heads but they many not even remember. Think if I took a picture you could tell the difference between a 10* and a 7* retainer?

T/A KID 07-08-2007, 11:28 PM I bought some 918's from Comp about 4 months ago still in the box for my build along with the 1.6 RR's and my 224/230 cam with around .550 lift.
If I can get Comp to take back my 918's and rockers and the cam I plan on getting some 1518's from yea (.650 lift baby) and doing 1.6 on the intake and 1.5 on the exhaust would net me .605 intake .603 exhaust using the 224/230 cam on the 3100 lobe part numbers.
T/A KID 07-10-2007, 01:36 PM Any more info on this?? Hopefully shon gets them tomarrow.
