Is a ported out tb worth the money? Or upgrading to a 78mm better and worth the money?

Neither if you're using stock heads/cam.

TB upgrades are really only necessary if you're doing internal mods like a camshaft or aftermarket heads/cam.

CAI, Exhaust, Headers, Gears, Clutch or Converter, etc are all mods that should be done before anything else.

I agree with Kraest except for one thing. I was on LS1tech the other day (i swear I dont go there often, lol jk) and there's one or two guys that do port work on the stock throttle bodies for $40 shipped I believe. Sounds like a great deal for a few ponies. You send them a core obviously...

I had one of those guys do one for me. I can honestly say that I gained .1 and 1mph at the track on a stock motor. Not bad for a $40 mod. Still Kraest is right, it's not necessary.

yeah i heard he does good work. i had bo white (also from tech) port mine this past winter. he did an amazing job and i couldnt be happier. you can see the before and after pics of it on the 2nd page of my cardomain site. i dont really agree with the above comment that it's not worth doing until you do internal engine mods. i think that every little bit helps when it comes to airflow. what's the point of adding a lid or cai if the tb ends up being the most restrictive point before the engine. i mean you have guys (not me) who will gladly spend $60-70 for a smooth bellows in the hopes of helping air flow just a tiny bit. if you're willing to do that why not spend the same $ and get a worthwhile mod done like porting your tb. also, most of these people do the bump stop mod at the same time which really helps when at wot. just my .02.

I would consider one of these new sumit racing units. I haven't heard anyone with one yet, but they do look nice-especially the price.
