MTV movie awards are really showcasing GM

It looks like GM is treating it like the superbowl. They're the main sponsor with lots of new commercials and they're even advertising the new camaro. Check it out if you get a chance. It also looks like the new Transformers movie is going to be a big GM commercial as well.

MTV is owned by the company that is putting out Transformers.
So its a huge spot for them. and also a month from theaters its the big kick off to the promo.
All the cars were there also.

Transformers is going to be huge for the Camaro.
I saw the trailer this weekend in the theater and every blip on the screen showed an old camaro or the new one.

THAT is the kind of advertising that can't be done on TV or radio.
Kind of like SMokey and the Bandit did for the TA or Bullitt did for the Mustang.

Kudos to GM for putting this together.

The drawback to all this is that you can't go BUY a Camaro yet.

It's almost like the Oprah G6 promo... people ran out to buy them, and found out you can't even get them.

I love the idea... but the timing is terrible.

Timing is what it is.... when a movie producer as big as there ever was calls and asks, you wouldn't say "no, not interested, doesnt fit our timing"

Transformers 2 should be out in time for 5th gen production launch anyway.

:D

Maybe people will like the psychopathic Mustang Decepticon better than Bumblebee

umm The Camaro will be out way before TF2.

and dont worry guys there is something in the movie that wont have people running to Chevy asking about the Camaro. trust me. Its not a problem the way they are using the new Camaro in the movie.

I love the idea... but the timing is terrible.

thing is, Michael Bay picked the Camaro Concept for the movie even before the car was shown at the 2006 NAIAS... so they had no idea they were going to build it, or when they were going to build it...

i know what you're saying though..

There may be something to that. I think a lot of Transformers fans find the Decepticons cool and see the Autobots as panzies. (Man I sound like a dork lol)

How old are you, sonny?
Does your father give you an allowance for you to buy your toys with?

J/K with you - I know exactly wat you are saying!
I have a 9 y/o in the house... I get more Hannah Montana and "Zack and Cody" junk than Decepticons, but eventually it all comes around!:D

Just turned 29 Friday. :D

I remember the original Transformers cartoon. A friend and I were talking about it this past weekend and he said he was so happy when Optimus Prime (the leader of the good-guy Autobots) was killed. That's what made me think about it.

Soundwave was my favorite character, but the others were more fun to play with.

This is going to be the biggest movie in box office history...it's nothing but great publicity for Camaro, Solstice and the other vehicles being showcased.

If and when there is a 2nd movie. I think there will be mor product placement. GM has the rights right now but maybe another company?
But who knows GM has enough different cars to make a whole Autobot army.

You hit the bullseye there. I was turned off when I found out that the new Camaro was going to be the dorky Bumblebee. I guess it would give Bumblebee a macho image, but in my mind, he's still the dorky beetle. Maybe he shouldve been the Solstice and Jazz shouldve been the Camaro. But im sure this will be a big boost for the Camaro and will be a hit with the younger generation.

Most people under 23 don't even remember the old bumble bee.

you know the name Camaro fits Bumblebee's character quite well.. Camaro meaning friend or companion or something, and that's exactly what Bumblebee is to Sam aka Spike... he's basically Sam's bodyguard in the movie... and if i recall had a similar role in G1

My mom was cleaning out our basement and brought over a car full of boxes of my old stuff to my place, and told me to keep what I wanted and throw the rest away...

Anyway, there was a bunch of my old Transformers, among other old toys, in there... Bumblebee included.

Don't throw it away!
Those old toys are fetching some STOOPID money on Ebay and autions these days. Seems stuff 20 years old and still working is rare and desireable?!?!

I had a programmable truck and dump trailer that my folks went into hock for back in about 1978 or 80 - called the "Big Track". If I can find the box for them, they'll fetch a killing today!

Transformers, Tonkas, etc are all gong crazy.

I don't think I lasted too far into that era... I think I was getting to be too old by the time they came out, or at least close to it... I do remember "Astrotrain", but I never had a triple changer... I did have all of the Concstructicons though! :D Devistator rocked! :metal: :D

When the wife and I moved my childhood bedroom suite into our house from my folks' a few years ago, we were going through some of the drawers looking at my grade school papers and junk from 1972-1978 time frame... found a complete set of original Star Wars trading cards - and since they were piled under a bunch of papers, they are ironed flat and in pristine condition - colors look perfect, no torn edges... just like the day they were opened. I have about 200-300 old trading cards from the NFL and MLB too - anyone remember Rosie Grier? Roger Stauback? Terry Bradshaw? I also found some cool old Matchbox cars too (not so pristine condition, I was tough on my cars back then! :D ). Some of the coolest stuff was old periodicals from back then. The toy ads and car ads in some of the old mags I had as a kid are too funny these days! Feathered hair and mullets... oh man.
There's no telling what all kinds of money this stuff would bring if marketed right.

I'm like you - it's put away for the time being. I'm a pack rat and I admit it.
