Chevy "Calls Out" CamryZ28Wilson 05-24-2007, 03:24 PM http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070524/AUTO01/705240375/1148 This is certainly a gutsy move..... slt 05-24-2007, 03:50 PM lol, thats pretty cool. I hope it gets some media attention. 2000GTP 05-24-2007, 04:49 PM Thats a bold move. Definitely a good way of getting a point across.:) Aaron91RS 05-24-2007, 05:39 PM IF the chevy is better then thats DAMN ballsy and I give them props. I can see a thread later down the road where someone goes in to the chevy dealership and sees the camry there gets better MPG. daddytrav 05-24-2007, 07:18 PM Its about time. Keep your chin down and throw some haymakers. SSbaby 05-24-2007, 08:53 PM It is a brave move as Chevy is certainly providing free advertising for Toyota... as if they need it. As I've said countless times, the product should be good enough to sell itself. number77 05-24-2007, 10:00 PM This person in the know told me about this a few weeks ago. This person also noted how buying many a Camry may not hurt Toyota. StreamlineZ28 05-24-2007, 10:56 PM i would buy the malibu over the camry on interior alone, that thing is awesome:eek: danno02SS 05-25-2007, 03:22 AM It's go time! I like it. Next step, set-up shop across the local Toyota dealer and offer a $25 dollar gas card with every test-drive. R377 05-25-2007, 08:43 AM Definitely gutsy. I wonder if some dealers will actually let customers test drive both the Camry and the Malibu sitting in the showroom? Probably not, if the Camry is in the actual showroom. Of course this isn't the first time the domestics have taken direct aim at the imports, just the first time they're bringing one into the showroom. I recall programs where'd you'd get $100 if you test drove a Chevy and still bought a Toyota, which is kinda similar. In advertising the domestics have always compared themselves to the imports. Going back a while I recall Chevy was trying to say how the Corsica was a superior car to Camry and Accord, and we all know how that one turned out. And we wonder why no one believes GM when they say they're on par now  OutsiderIROC-Z 05-25-2007, 09:20 AM  They look practically the same anyways. Kinda... OutsiderIROC-Z 05-25-2007, 09:31 AM The lines are similar. Z28Wilson 05-25-2007, 09:33 AM I see the resemblance. 96_Camaro_B4C 05-25-2007, 10:30 AM "Resemblance?" . . . I call it a rip-off myself.:no: OK, they both have 4 doors, and they are both red... :p Different greenhouse, different front end treatment (headlights, character lines, lower air intakes, grills, etc.), hoodlines, hood shape, 3/4 panels, completely different rear ends (which you can't see in those pics), and so on. They do have a resemblance in the rather tall, slab sided door treatment and doorsill/rocker panel area, but... Unfortunately, they also share the elevated/pregnant nose situation, which seems to be a nod toward pedestrian impact requirements. But you'll be able to tell them apart. :) 96_Camaro_B4C 05-25-2007, 10:46 AM I think we'll be able to tell them apart because we're car enthusiasts. However, your average Joe Blow and Soccer Mom will not.Watch it, my last name is Blow!! :D That may be true (about enthusiasts vs. average drivers), but I think that is the case with LOTS of different vehicles. There are many, many people out there, most of them women :p, who could not tell the difference between an Explorer and a 4Runner, or a BMW and a Mercedes, or a VW Jetta and a Corolla, or... 94Camaro_Z_28 05-25-2007, 10:48 AM Watch it, my last name is Blow!! How bout a Camaro and a Sebring  Northwest94Z 05-25-2007, 10:51 AM Really? http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2007/01/04-chevrolet-malibu/Chevrolet-Malibu-2.jpg and http://img.infotropic.com/w/w060116_3.jpg  Ahh yes. The top one is attractive. The bottom one not so much. slt 05-25-2007, 11:45 AM Really? http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2007/01/04-chevrolet-malibu/Chevrolet-Malibu-2.jpg and http://img.infotropic.com/w/w060116_3.jpg  Honestly, if you took the badges off and showed me those pictures 5 years ago, I would say the top one is the import and the bottom one was the chevy. The Malibu looks much cleaner and a bit more upscale while the Toyota kinda looks cheaper with tacky add-ons glued on. Z28x 05-25-2007, 12:33 PM  They look practically the same anyways. Not when you see them in person. The new Malibu is a very attractive sedan. I was impressed with how much better it looked at the NYC autoshow. Silverado C-10 05-25-2007, 03:35 PM How bout a Camaro and a Sebring  Hmmm, *if* GM had bought Chrysler..... they could have merged the two coupes and called them the "Sebraro" I think the Malibu is a lot better looking than the Camry. Only problem with buying lots of Camry's is that Toyota's sales are high enough as it is.... GM will mostly purchase low mileage, used 2007's?.... OR... borrow their sale's associate's Camry's for the day :bang: Evilfrog 05-25-2007, 03:45 PM Looks like saturn is getting in on the action too. http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/05/25/gm_vs_camry/index.html 97QuasarBlue3.8 05-25-2007, 03:58 PM Ah yes...I remember seeing this in an auto blog somewhere. I think the new plan should be to RENT the Camry's for display, because buying one for each of about 4,000 Chevy dealerships and 430-ish Saturn dealerships would artificially inflate Camry's sales. My thought? The Malibu is a great car, but they should also offer the test Camry for sale, as Chevy dealerships could sell an additional 4,430 units of used cars :D It will be interesting to see how this virtual bar fight plays out between the two brands... DAKMOR 05-25-2007, 05:15 PM Y'know, an old show had a "perofrmance" cruiser as the main character's main mode of transport. A 4 door Sebring with a cowl induction hood. lol... I thought it was a Camaro the first time I saw it. The Malibu certainly looks better to me, but the comparison idea is'nt that bad. Just be careful, they might start to sell more Camrys because of this, which as above said, equals more sales for GM!! | ||
