Whiney rear end after gear install 2.73 -> 4.10
Whiney rear end after gear install 2.73 -> 4.10
My friend Z28Roxy bought these 2-series carrier ring & pinion gears from Summit:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
as well as an install kit, also from Summit. This was to change her car which was originally an auto with 2.73s, to 4.10s (the car is now a 6 speed)
She just got the car back from the mechanic who installed them for her. We have used this mechanic for several other jobs and he seems qualified and has some knowledge about performance stuff (has a third gen Camaro that he's building up on the side). Anyway, the rear end is QUITE whiney. The mechanic said that it's probably just the way the gears are cut. But we're kinda worried he may not have installed them properly.
What should we do? Deal with it, see what happens? Complain about it and take it back?

or
i also hear the higer (number) gears are very whiney. MY buddys third gen does this with 4.10s also
The Higher the Number the more naturally loud the mechanical harmonics are going to be. If its to whiney then like the guy before me said, The backlash can be off and cause something to fracture. Who knows. Best bet would be to have someone else check the backlash.
