i googled it, and found a write up from a guy and it sounds pretty straight forward, but he had a lot of stuff that he didnt do that i would like to (maintain AC, power steering, etc) and didnt know if that was possible

what i really wonder is - the guys that i read used a t56, but i want to use my 4l60E, didnt know if its possible, i wouldnt see why not, but just want to make sure

Guy who used to post here, up to a couple years ago was doing that, if I recall correctly..... had a 600+HP LT1 he was putting in the RX7. I don't think he ever finished it. Search on the screen name "jimlab". Also look for posts by "JordonMusser", I think he did an LS1 into RX7.

i found a great website that tells me how to do the swap, found a place that sells mounting kits to do the swap and everything, but it does not list a 4l60E as an option for a transmission. Do you guys see any reason why a t56 wuold work and a 4l60e wouldnt?

Grannys speed shop is where I am guessing you looked:

http://engineswaps.com/

They list the 700R4 but not the 4l60E. Have you thought of sing a 93 tranny instead? I would just give them a call and see if the 4l60e is compatible with wiring changeover.

yes I have, i have a picture of it somewhere too. It was at a car show in Worcester, Mass. last summer. It was a tight fit, particularly with the intake elbow. I believe it had a corvette independant rear suspension also.

If a 700r4 works a 4l60e would work.

If a 700r4 works a 4l60e would work.True.

You just have to remember that 2nd and 3rd gen. RX-7s have short ring and pinion gears (4.10:1 for manual cars and 3.90:1 for automatics) and a 700R4/4L60E's 4th gear (0.70:1) is going to put the engine at about 2,700 rpm @ 70 mph with a stock diameter tire (P225/50-16 or ~24.8" tall for a 3rd gen.). However, there are now conversion kits available for installing Ford Cobra 8.8" IRS differentials in both 2nd and 3rd gen. RX-7s, so you can have an automatic transmission and get your fuel economy back. :)

Good luck with traction in that light of a car and that low 1st gear:eek:
Might make for a good drifting package though with the front end weight. If your into that sorta thing. I like goin straight myself.

RX-7/LS1 conversions typically end up very close to the stock 50/50 weight distribution and the conversion only adds about 60 lbs. for those who keep their power steering and air conditioning and have to have emissions equipment. Afterward, they go straight and turn corners just fine. ;)

CPT cars, last car on the page.

That's how a light mazda hooks a low first gear with 4.10's a 3600 stall and a 150 shot with 245 drag radials.

just raced an RX7 turbo, in the internet said car is a 14.9 second car, I think he said s4, that was just rebuild, the rebuild was just new seal and things like that, ported the hole to the combustion chamber bigger so it will be like the next step up engine I guess, Cold air intake and K&N filter, not sure if he had any other mods. I was just wondering what kind of horespower do you think it has?

Ohh yeah I lost, but side by side about a bumper before we had to slow down and bogged the launch off. 1993 Camaro Z28 stock except for an MSD Blaster Coil as far as I know, When I bought the car it had about 125,000 miles. Should I have beaten him?

well, i went and looked at a few rx7s, but nothing that im exactly looking for yet. Looking for a 2nd gen with a good body, dont care about paint or interior as those are easy for me

jimlab
05-23-2007, 02:33 AM
I was just wondering what kind of horespower do you think it has?Depends a lot on how much boost he was running. :)

Should I have beaten him?See above. It could easily have been a 12-second car with a ported engine and enough boost. His car is also considerably lighter than yours and has more aggressive gearing.

Looking for a 2nd gen with a good bodyPlenty of those around, not so much with the 3rd gen.

13,879 were imported into the U.S., and only an estimated 6,000 or so are still on the road. Make that one less as of yesterday, and this one was LS1 powered.

The driver and passenger are fine, BTW. These cars do hold up amazingly well in collisions.

Got more information on the car/wreck?Apparently, they were racing another (single turbo rotary) 3rd gen. RX-7 and lost control. The driver was uninjured, from what I understand, and the passenger just had a sore knee. It could have been much, much worse, obviously.
