Yes, the slave cylinder can be replaced without removing the clutch, but you will have to remove the transmission since the slave cylinder slides over the input shaft. While you are replacing the slave cylinder ,I highly recomend buying a remote bleeder line for the slave so you can bleed the clutch from wherever you decide to mount the bleeder instead of fighting to bleed the clutch from the stock location.

Yes, your right.. I didn't read that all the way and for some reason replaced "Clutch" with "transmission". Inserting foot in mouth.

Remote bleeder?!?!? That sounds like something I might like!!!! Does somebody make/sell one, or is this like a custom/home fab job???

As far as changing the slave cylinder, it's actually "easy" ............ once you get the transmission pulled off the engine ;).

Theres someone on LS1Tech who makes/sells them for 80$ or so. Its braided steel line that goes up and sits next to your master res. VERY cleaver setup, I'll be picking one up come clutch time.

Yeah, there is a few guys on ls1tech.com making/selling them. What it is ,is a 36" braided stainless steel line with a EARL's SOLO bleeder on the remote end and a fitting on the other end that screws into the slave. I ran mine up the back of the drivers side engine and using a rubber lined clamp that came with the line, I bolted it to one of the coil mounting studs. It took all of about 10 minutes by myself to bleed my clutch and did it all right there under the hood where I could add fluid as needed and didn't have to fight laying on my back trying to feel for the stock bleeder and worrying about dropping my socket inside the bellhousing, not to mention possibly getting fluid all over my new clutch!!! As far as I'm concerned , this is a must have mod!!!:D
