Vortech V-1 S trim vs ProCharger P1SC

I have a chance to buy a complete Vortech V-1 S trim blower w/ the aftercooler and crane box for $2k. I really wanted to put on a ProCharger D1SC kit but I really can't afford that and build a new bottom end. I was just wondering how the Vortech kit compares to the ProCharger? From what I've been told, the S trim is more inline with the P1SC head unit, is this true? I'm putting together a forged bottom end 383 that will be blower purpose built. What kind of boost will a S trim make? Vortech told me around 20#. Please let me know if this is a good deal, money is hard to come by these days. Thanks for any help you can send me.

I believe the S-trim is similar to a Procharger P600B and the T-Trim is like the P1SC but the P1SC is just a tiny bit better. I base this on the specs Procharger and Vortech post on their websites about their own models.

I hope someone with some experience with both models will chime in and confirm.

I'm also wondering if I can change to a FMIC instead of that aftercooler? I would also like to learn more about what all I will need to put a good combo together. I don't want to waste a lot of money on buying the wrong stuff. Where could I read up on blower comparisons and stuff?

I would personally!

I've only known 1 person with a Vortech S-trim w/ a aftercooler and they hated it and sold it, he ended up just using Meth injection without any intercooler.

Procharger firmly believes in their intercoolers and has some pretty convincing information on the whole subject. They will send you a free information packet in the mail if you go on their site. I actually enjoyed what they sent me!

I have the Procharger info, the guy at Vortech was an ass and not much of a help. I was only gonna get the Vortech because of the price.

You can run a FMIC on the S-trim. I have the T-trim with a FMIC, you can see pics of how everything is mounted on my cardomain site which is listed in my sig.

I only have good things to say about Prochargers customer support! I've never had anything to do with Vortech so i can't say either way there.

I will say one thing though, i am VERY pleased with my P1SC! Its exactly what i expected and more! Not one little leak, no shaft play, runs smooth, great belt traction, nothing but good things to say about it!

The P1sc and the P600b are essentially the same charger, both rated for the same airflow. The S-trim compares to the P1sc and the P600b. The T-trim and the D1 are both the same size, so the S-trim you're looking at is smaller than the D1. You can run a FMIC on the S-trim. I have the T-trim with a FMIC, you can see pics of how everything is mounted on my cardomain site which is listed in my sig.

Incorrect!

The P600B and P1SC and completely different stepup ratios which is the main difference between the P600B, P1SC, and D1, S-trim, T-trim.

The p600B is rated at 650hp. The S-Trim 650, and the T-trim is 825hp.
The P1SC is rated at 825 as well as the D1.

The S-trim and P1SC are in completely different levels!

Cool, Trust me I wish the kit my buddy has was a Procharger. I have heard a lot of good things about them.

Yep, I looked immediatley after posting and realised my mistake, so I removed the incorrect info. If you look at the edit time on that post, you can see that I had allready removed it before you corrected me, so there :P lol

Do you guys think that $1700-$2000 is a good deal for a V-1 S trim blower with all the piping, Crane Hi-6 box and pullies? It was on a car, but he owed my buddy some $$$$ so he gave him this. The blower has no play in the pulley or anything.

I would say thats about an average deal, I bought my T-Trim kit from a friend for 2000.00. He had just upgraded from the S-Trim to the T-Trim and the head unit had less than 10k on it when I bought it.

Unfortunately the kits have jumped in price like crazy. The D1sc kit I was looking at was around $4700 now it's like $6600.

i bought my kit used on this board for 1600 shipped. No extra injectors, fuel pump or ignition box. Just the blower, bracket, pulleys, belt, manual and BPV.

oo, and he threw in 3 bottles of oil :)

>I really like my T-trim and have absolutely no problems with it and I have a FMIC from PTK http://forcedinductions.com/GMkits2.htm its an air to water.

Just keep in mind that if you go that 383 route, you'll be looking to toss that S-trim pretty quick. I think it would be hard making 20psi on the S without overspinning the daylights out of it, especially on a more efficent 383 setup.

its completely pointless to overspin a blower though isn't it? I mean spinning them past their rated rpms. Like the P1SC unit's max is 62,000rpm.. so going to say 65,000 would produce less power then staying at or under 62,000rpm correct? or is it a diminishing returns type thing?

What Does FMIC mean? some kind of aftercooler?

Exactly my point of why he'll want to toss the S-trim on a 383 setup. And your right, no gains in overspinning it except to run it further past its efficency range and make less power. It's interesting to compare the max efficency numbers on the S vs the T and see where there gonna make their most power at. The T seems to be a nice fit for a 383 setup. A Ysi on the other hand seems like it wouldn't even have to work hard to make good power.

Yea, kinda the same thing with the F1 Procharger model. Unless your aiming for 1,000rwhp the F1 doesn't even need to really work hard.

Now as for my P1SC, i'll be working the hell out of it :)

Wow that was a good deal. I sold just my P1SC head unit, tensioner and 4.25 blower pulley for $1725.
