I am looking for my 94 also. You better provide your definition of good sounding. Mine is the best performance and as quite as posible so I can hear the stereo. I suspect many others want it as loud as possible.:)

The LS1 site is a good start....

What I want is a deep Throaty, good Muscle sound. Loud is good, but a good deep sound would be alright.

I kind of think the Hooker, GMMG, and Borla catbacks fall in that category.

Magnaflow or hooker if you do acatback, If you do TD'S, it's up in the air, I have Spintech Prostreet mufflers with a x-pipe and it's nasty!

If you want a muscle car sound, duals is the best possible way. I love the sound of my duals.

The Loudmouths get ridiculous amounts of mixed reviews. I dont personally have anything against them. But they get raspy when you add long tubes.

No exhaust sounds the best to me

Cutout with the cat with the stock manifolds sounds very very good

Cheapeast and best flowing too :D

Thats my feeling on it too. As a standalone catback, it seems to get very good feedback. I noticed some complaints on sound quality though when matched up with headers and an off-road y-pipe.

I have the hooker cat-back and I am very pleased with the sound, it has a deep mellow idle, while acceleration just screams. I love it when im driving people always stare to see what the coming by. But the down fall f it is the quality. It fits nice but it tends to rust, i had mine for over a year now and it starting to show in some spots. Another issue are the tips, dont even put them on, they are crap.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that one. I used to have that catback previously and it had an awesome sound. Too bad it wasn't stainless steel though because it started rusting pretty quick.

You dont need a new TB.The stock one is fine.Even a full bolt on car will not really benefit from a bigger tb.

In terms of improved flow, I would start with headers over a larger throttle body.

The LM is a love/hate thing. I can't stand them, and I think most don't like them after the initial thrill has worn off. At first, you'll love it because it is so loud. Then after a while, you'll hate it because it is so loud, ALL THE TIME. It get old. Plus, they sound bad without cats, or with headers.

I have the Hooker catback with midlength headers and no cats and it sounds incredible. Fairly quiet at idle, but at partial throttle it has a deep tone that sounds great. At WOT, there is no rasp, and it is still PLENTY loud.

I just wish I saw this thread earlier to try and talk you out of the LM. Hopefully you'll like it though.

Very true. It does seem that everyone likes whatever exhaust they seem to have on their car, due to a little bias. (myself included) :)

I've got a lot of compliments on the sound of my car. I have Hooker LTs, no cats and Hooker 3" cat-back. Look at the clip in my sig to hear it through a dyno pull (although the video doesn't do it justice)...

Coming from a Loudmouth Owner, When I was 17 just after I purchased my car from working fast food for 2 years, the first thing I got was a Loudmouth exhaust.

OMG did I think I was cool. The thing sounded like a beast, and like it had alot done to it, but all it had was exhaust. Now that I look back, 5 years later, I feel like a ricer. Granted the car was quick, but it sounded like a drag car. It DID NOT perform like a drag car.

It's hard to beleive that you won't do anything else to your car.

As I started to get more into cars, I added more parts. I have 1 3/4 Long tubes, 3 inch y, no cat, straigh into the loudmouth exhaust. Let me tell you. It sucks. It doesn't sound very good at Idle, it is the worst sound known to man at part throttle. It sounds like complete ass. I am actually embarassed to drive it at part throttle. However, it does have that "The world is coming to an end" top fuel drag car sound when you go to WOT.

So basically now, I idle around town, or go WOT at all times till I get my exhaust changed.

Also, cops will LOVE you. You're car will be louder than anything on the road. MY car was LOUDER with the LM and headers, than it was STRAIGHT HEADERS!

It will be fun for a year or two, but will get very old. People will say Wow, that thing sounds great! Till they see how slow it actually is, or have to drive it all the time.

Well see Im gonna do stuff to my car other than the exhaust but its my daily driver. I worked on my mustang and its complete and has ALOT so Im just doing some minor stuff to the camaro and Im going to autocross it this summer. Im not gonna do alot of things to it, not gonna put headers, not gonna take off the cat or anything just exhaust and a few little things to make it handle better, i just want it to sound better. Thanks for your information tho.

open long tubes......... or long tubes and hooker catback with ORY, cant beat the price or sound just make sure to paint the hooker cat back with silver high temp paint to keep it from rusting

I'm dumping my hooker catback. It is too loud for me with my headers, so I am going with a stock muffler to have that nice quiet stock sound again.

Pacesetter headers with high flow cats to get rid of high pitch rasp and flame control. Bent 3 inch piping to the side.

I have yet to find an lt1 camaro that sounds deeper or more throaty than mine.

With a total expense of about less then 100 bux :)

I absolutely LOVE that exhaust. I would not trade it for the WORLD.

Full duals with turn downs do it for me. You can stand behind the car when its idling and feel it in you chest but if you step away its not loud until you get on it, Then its another story. I had mine ran out the back and it looked and sounded too much like a truck for me. I get tons of I didnt know you could do that to a Camaro and wow that thing sounds mean as hell. but hey thats just my preference.

Dynomax here. nice and quiet when my foot was off the loud petal. (and the 2.8 eerily enough seems louder to me than my buddy's z28 with the same exhaust) couldn't really tell just by rolling by me. unless I was on it.

part of that might have been the exhaust manifold leak on the right side though. *snicker* swear I could hear more from the front than I could the back.

but the back had a real nice mellow sound.

and it certainly helped my fuel mileage and power

I have the SLP LM with a Borla XR1 Race Muffler instead of the resonator. I bought like this. Sounds great. Deep sound and loud, but, at least to me, not annoyingly so. I don't have headers yet and my cat is still there so I don't know how the sound would change. I don't think it would sound that bad with headers and a cat though considering that the flow is through a muffler and not the resonator. But I will find out soon enough. At the moment I get compliments and I love it.
