has anyone put a cutout on a V6? i have a p.o.s. flowmaster exhaust and dont want to really put that much money into it due to the fact that the z28 is in the future (aka like a year or two). so i was just looking for a small summer project and was wondering if it was worth it sound wise. not to worried about gaining hp

I heard soundwise, it is not the best way to go. But for a 30 dollar cutout, who knows, experiment and see for yourself.

i'm not trying to be an a** or anything but how could it sound any better on the z28? i mean, i'm not retarded and dont know that the engine is bigger and all that stuff but it doesnt make all the best sense. i've seen/heard a cutout on some G35s, which are v6 engines, that didnt sound to bad. Any other feedback? i am a college student and dont wanna dump any more money into the car cause i know i want the z28 and am saving money for that but i'm just looking for some nice summmer projects that are cheap obiviously. thanks guys

There is a guy near me with a V6 and a cutout and the car sounds horrible (no offense to you v6 guys). I mean the thing can be heard from so far away and its the worst sound I have ever heard. Save yourself the 100 or so (cutout +install) and wait till you get a Z/28. I have had a cutout in my garage I got 3 months ago that I still havent installed, I am worried its gonna be to raspy(friend's SS is very very raspy).

From what I have gathered from the v6 guys, it sounds much better just to swap in an aftermarket muffler then to bypass the stock muffler with a cutout.

yeah i gotcha. i'm just looking for a new/different sound other than the flowmaster 80 series i have on there. the only other thing i was thinking was to put another new muffler on there. any recommendations for that? is it even worth it, like will the sound be any different? the only other idea that i wanted to do was to do the 98-02 front end swap. i love the way the newer front end looks, its just gonna be a lot more expensive.

Not sure how another muffler will sound. Maybe do a search, I know a v6 exhaust question pops up every now and then. If you plan on getting a z28 though soon, I would probably just save the money and not buy another muffler or a potentially costly front end swap.

If getting a new Z is important to you, why keep spending money on that car? I had a cutout on my old V6 for a while, and later removed it because the sound was absolutely horrible when it was open.

Sounded fairly decent at idle, but anything off of that and it sounded like raspy hell.

I having the exhaust off for 4" between the cat and the tail pipe. It is real loud but sounds horrible. I am now going to either move it back closer to the muffler or forget it all together. I also figure if i go to the track and have it off they will think my car is a 10-11 sec car which it aint, yet. The only ones that will race me are cars i have no chance against anyways.

what if i just install a loudmouth 1 resonator or a loudmouth 2 muffler? i heard this sounds better than the flowmaster. can i stick it where my flowmaster is, which is right under (parallel) the gas tank? this would make it look like the stock exhaust, correct?
