I've ran these head-gaskets three times now on stock longblocks boosting 7psi, and havn't had any problems. (Using ARP head Bolts in all applications) I'm building an all forged 396 that will have the same supercharger setup as all my other engine builds for now. Down the road (sometime this summer most likely) I'll be bolting on a T-Trim. Will these gaskets be good for say 10psi? how about 14?
Just curious what you guys think; not sure if this is enough info to draw from.
Oh, and what's the deal with that Permatex Copper Head Gasket Spray? Is this stuff a good idea to use, or something to stay away from on performance apps?
Thanks again,
Andrew

I use cometic head gaskets on mine with 12 lbs of boost no problems. I tried fell-pro before and blew them in no time. With cometic gaskets you can get them in differant sizes to lower comp. I dont know about the spray but if you use quality stuff you shouldnt have to use any type of substance to make it work better in my opp. If you get to high of boost its best to o-ring the block. hope this helps. 1074s if installed correctly ( dont use spray!) will handle 14psi, and be a good safe "fuse" should detonation occur.
COmetics will take you into the silly territory. I made 1000+hp @ 24psi with them, no o-rings.

Ok, that was along the lines I was thinking.
I am not interested in having my block/heads machined for o-rings. I'm running a -34cc dish, so compression is not an issue. I remember talking to some people you were using 1074's in similar combinations as mine, just wanted to make sure my memory wasn't flawed.
I'll be bolting on different heads and going to a different cam before I break into the 600+ FWHP catagory. And for now (in reality, before the T-trim) I'm only gunning for 400RWHP.
Thanks for the help,
Andrew
BTW: can anybody clearify why spray is a no-no in performance apps?

ill be running 14psi through a turbo with the felpro 1074's. I know a guy that ran 18 with no problems.

Whats your problem with cometic gaskets? they work good for me.
I have always used the 1074's and never had a problem. They are currently on my new engine that we are gonna try to get into the 7's with.

I've always used 1074's. Been as high as 24 psi boost with no issues. I have blown them, but it was due to an over-boost incident.
I wouldn't use the spray simply because the gaskets work fine without it. Wouldn't is suck if you tried it and were the first to find out why not to use it?

15 psi with 1074's. The real trick is to make sure both surfaces are true and you use good head studs. That ultra copper thing would probably not be a good idea for forced induction.

haha; indeed...I have no intentions of using it. I was just curious if there was a cut and dry reason "why not too" that I hadn't run across yet.

There is a good reason not to use spray.. .engineers spent a lot of time coming up with the materials to use in the dry seal gasket and it wasn't intended to have anything on it
chevytune-
I love cometic gasket, hence the reason I said they are great into huge power levels. but I wouldnt use them on a lower hp/boost setup.they are expensive and more sensitive to surface finish.

I actually used the ultra copper trick on my toyota corolla when I was in college simply because I didn't want to machine the warped heads and was low on cash. It worked fine and it stopped the car from making white clouds of smoke. I also used JB weld to seal up a cracked head on that car. LOL.
