Can't connect to 97 TA?

I have 2 cables that I have here. One is from my OBD-2.com kit I bought for use a few years ago for my 2G Eclipse. That wouldn't connect, so I purchased a new OBDII cable from an online store..... same thing. I tried free software and I get connection errors there too.

I looked online and I noticed they connect the cable I bought (OBDII to serial) to some junction box, then another cable to the laptop?

HELP?!

There are several different OBD2 wired protocols. You will need one that supports "SAE J1850 VPW" to talk to your car.

So, just buy the SAE J1850 VPW junction box and a male to female serial cable and I should be good right?

You should also make sure the software you want to use with the cable supports that specific cable.

It has check boxes for the different cable types and does an auto interface search. I called Alex at OBD-2 and he said as long as the junction box was indeed the correct type, that it will work. :)

THANKS VINCE!
