Yeah, another photoshop. As much as I hate to say it, hideaways as we knew them might not be possible. I'm sure that GM has something up its sleeve to get hideaways on it but... We'll see if it happens.

A headlight setup where at some point its covered in any way is now illegal.

When the headlights are off? Wouldnt that make flipup headlights illegal?

Yes, for new vehicles. I dont think anyone can stop you if you modify them yourself though. ;)

The whole popup headlights thing I could find is this little tidbit??

recent Regulations contain stringent standards regarding protuberances on car bodies, in an effort to minimize injury to pedestrians struck by cars.

so maybee popups are not allowed but inside fender or bumpers?? Maybee?

Would like to find out. That photoshop looks amazing and if GM could pull that off with the headlight covers. WOW:eek:

That has to vary from state to state, right?

well it depends if its a local or federal law...

The only way it would be a federal law is if it states that any automanufacturer can not include a set-up that is at one point covered in some way. The Federal wouldn't have any jurisdiction to mandiate how you can or can't modify your car. It is like window tinting, or lifting a truck... all varys by state.

That picture obviously leads you to believe the car is using LED headlights. Which haven't been perfected just yet, but if they were I dont see why a setup like the one above would be restricted...

The grill pieces aren't obstructing the light because the light is being generated by LEDs which are totally between the pieces... Hell I dont see why you coudln't design a narrow rectangular casing like a Hella FF75 to go in between the vents that would sove the problem the same way.

Anyway, from the factory all thats unlikely, but Im sure the aftermarket will have something out.

I hear ya Casull. Thats the thing man. no one knows?? Is it a regulation..and if so I would imagine it would be a national one for car manufacting. But its kinda weird that all the cars that were popular or known by the pop ups. They changed them to fixed lights.

Like this other snippet I found
Due to a new car design rule from SAE (The Society of Automotive Engineers), the pop-up headlights had to be removed

You got me man..who knows??

There is a pretty strong rumor that they are looking at giving the C7 pop-ups again, due to some complaining from the die-hards. So I'm not sure about there being a law against it.

They can sue all they want. It's not GM who decided against it, it's the Department of Transport who made it illegal. That is why no manufacturers have this anymore. Acura NSX, Lamborghini, Ferrari, all gone.

I would think that GM could still provide it if they can design windows, (similar to 69) that could still shine significant light through the covers but still retain the look we all love.

One of the earlier concept drawing had the same light setup, and it said that the led's were used as parking lights/turn signals. They would slide over with the cover when the headlights were turned on.

That'd be a really nice nod of respect to the '67 Camaros with the in-grille flips -- ala the movie "Better off Dead"

I don't see why any of them need to be DRL's. A lot of new cars don't have them anymore. A fact I'm happy with as I never could stand them and disabled them shortly after getting my '00 S10 Xtreme and '02 Camaro.

They seemed all the rage in the late 90's up until 2 or 3 years ago. Thankfully someone seems to have realized how overrated they were.

Wish they would drop the ugly amber DRL lights on the C6 it messes up a nice looking headlight asm.

As for DRL's on the 2010 Camaro I wouldn't mind if the halo lights served that purpose.

While I'd rather have no DRL's at all on a car, the amber turn signal DRL's are the best way to do it if it must be done.

That is, with the exception of the new Camaro. Yeah, I could tolerate the halo's being the DRL if they HAVE to be on it.

But I'd rather not have the DRL at all. :irk::yuck::no:
