A while ago I posted about ordering a Pypes SGF55 cat- back exhaust for my '95 single cat Z28.
Anyway after six long weeks I picked it up from my local airport, couldn't be bothered to wait for them to deliver it,it's only a 20 min drive from my house.
So I set about taking the old system off,the clamp that was holding on the inlet pipe to the old muffler was rusted solid and even with WD-40 it wouldn't budge so I hacksawed it off. Then I sawed the old pipe off just before the axle so I could remove the pipe that joins to the cat.The two bolts on the flange of the cat came undone without a hitch.
Then I attempt to fit the new system but am unable to because of lack of ground clearance,I only had low ramps, couldn't wangle the new pipe over the axle whatever I did.
So I take the car to a local mechanic who has a ramp, sounded awesome with no exhaust, tickover sound was impressive but it droned a bit on the highway.
Got it up on the ramp and still couldn't get the pipe over the axle due to clearance issues with a welded on exhaust hanger. The guy ended up unbolting those two cross-brace parts below the axle, not sure if one of them was the sway-bar or not,who knows.
So the exhaust pipe was finally fitted over the axle and I took the car home and fitted the muffler and tailpipes myself, sounds nice and deep, like a proper V8 :).
Sounds similar to the Edelbrock SDT cat back,it has the Pypes pro-v muffler, but the system didn't come with any tips,so I purchased my own 3.5" slash cut stainless tips at extra cost.
Do other cat-backs come in sections to aid fitting over the axle?,this one was in one piece from the cat back to the muffler inlet.
