turnin20s 04-02-2007, 01:58 AM I'm getting to the point that I need to start getting the smaller things for my build up and next on my list is plug wires. What are some good ones, the ones to stay away from, and your experiences with different brands.
I was thinking some Moroso wires or some taylor 10.4s, but I'm not sure that I need something like that. I have usually used MSD 8.5s and had good luck with them but I'm just looking at my options.
Eventually I will be adding a delteq setup, but that probably won't be until the winter.
Let me know
joe-96z1le 04-02-2007, 08:12 AM Accel Extreme 9000s. They have coated boots to protect against header heat. Or, even better, Magnecors.
turnin20s 04-02-2007, 09:53 AM I'm not a big fan of accel products, but how about the taylor full metal jacket ones?
2000GTP 04-02-2007, 12:06 PM I've never had any problems with Taylor, MSD, or just factory replacement Delco wires.

I might just go with the delco replacements, that way I'm not spending $100+ on a set of wires that are going to be replaced anyway.

Especially if you get the long tube headers, then you will most likely want to ditch the stock wire routing setup and go with an over the valve cover setup instead.

O'Reilys quoted me $ 108 for AC Delco ones...
I bought my Taylor Spiro Pros for around $ 50.

Wow, didn't realize Delcos have gotten that high in cost. I also used the Taylor Spiro Pros before switcing over to my OTVC setup and they were very good wires and they ran around 45-50 bucks. Can't beat that.
DAKMOR 04-02-2007, 01:52 PM What's the difference in over the valve cover, and normal routing for the wires?
Sorry if I thread jack.
turnin20s 04-02-2007, 02:05 PM No problem, OTVC meens that the plug wires are routed over the valve cover and then down to the plug rather than the stock under the header routing. OTVC keeps the wires out of the way more so the wires don't get burned up by the headers.
OTVC setup...

And if your car is stock you can go out and look to see how the wires are routed.
Hope that helps :D
JasonK94Z 04-02-2007, 03:07 PM OTVC wires is sooo much easier to do than the stock location wires. Thunder Racing sells the Taylor OTVC kit.

I agree. Routing the OTVC wires is painfully simple as compared to the stock setup.
DAKMOR 04-02-2007, 05:03 PM Oh, okay, thanks for explaining that.

How hard is it to cut and put the ends on with the crimping tool? I did a set on my brothers S10, but I didn't have a tool and it sucked and I said that I would never do it again.

They are still tricky. It might help to put the boots in some hot water to aid in slipping over the wire.
Mescaline 04-03-2007, 04:22 PM Accel Extreme 9000s are crap, the coating just burned off and then burned through the boot, and yes they were properly routed. I was shown the differences between several top brand name wires hooked up to coil and then arched to ground or a spark plug ... anyway, then was shown a blue set of wires, they were from Jacobs Electronics .. I never heard of them but when he hit the juice that spark was a minimum of twice the intensity. He explained they have the lowest resistance of any plug wires out there.
He convinced me so I tried a set for my '93 Z28 and there was a noticeable difference. Well when I built up my 84 pickup and added the wires I got, what seemed to be, better mileage.
I'll only use Jacobs wires now... they can be found at mr gasket dot com.
joe-96z1le 04-03-2007, 04:40 PM I'll agree there are better wires out there but my Accel Extreme 9000s lasted for years on a blower motor with headers. With stock wires, I'd burn through those in about 100 miles. Just my personal experience.
turnin20s 04-03-2007, 06:40 PM I think I'll go with the Taylor Spiro Pros and see how I like them and I'm going to try to keep them in the stock location, hopefully the hookers don't melt them.

Just keep them secured away from the header primaries with cable ties and you should be fine.

Good to hear. I'm trying to keep my engine compartment looking as stock as possible, but I guess it doesn't really matter since its going to be hard to cover up the idle with the 306 :D
2000GTP 04-03-2007, 07:09 PM The lope of the CC306 and a pair of coated headers may be a little hard to pass off as stock appearance.:D

Its just that bad gas that I keep getting LOL makes it idle like crap, but it cleans up at about 2500 RPMs HAHA :D
