turnin20s 04-01-2007, 09:18 AM I'm planning on doing LTs with an X-pipe with bullets dumped at the axle, but I'm worried about how loud it will be. With my old setup I had stock manifolds, stock y-pipe, no cat and a dumped bullet and it was loud, but not so loud that I would get pulled over for it. Now with the addition of the LTs and alot stronger motor how much louder will it make my car, or will it be alittle quiter since there is going to be 2 mufflers?
Just for an example my brother has a 94 Cobra with LTs, offroad X pipe, and flowmaster cat-back and he has to be careful cause the cops are always watching when he drives past, but he hasn't been pulled over for it. Well not yet anyway.
mrmint69 04-01-2007, 01:16 PM The louder the exhaust the faster the cops think your going. On a normal drive it will not raise much notice but if they hear you scream off the line it will draw all kinds of attention.
Severous01 04-01-2007, 09:47 PM some cities actually have an ordinance for noise. if i were a cop i'd pull over every ass on a harley that romps the throttle for no reason...and those ricer idiots that think they'll gain 20hp by throwing a 5" muffler on their stock exhaust system. i'd be the first to pull over anyone that i can hear through my glass and radio..and i listen to the radio pretty loud
but i'm not a cop so i can't do anything about it.
check the local laws about the noise level....and i'd suggest not doing it if you live in an apartment or densly populated area. i;ve actually called the cops on the local moron that revs the crap out of his 4cyl ricer every morning. why should he be able to wake me up...in my apt, with the freaking fan and radio on...just because he thinks he's cool with his $2k honda and a 30 muffler. screw him.

Got some anger in ya huh?? LOL j/k I know what you are saying, but there is a diffeence IMO between the stupid kit that revs his car because he thinks hes cool and the guy that has a loud car and tries to be respectful with it. I live in wisconsin and I'm sure that there is a law, but the cops around here don't enforce it, but it gives them a reason to pull you over if they feel like being a dick. And most of the guys with cars hang out together and I just don't want to attract more attention than I need to. I have been thinking of doing a custom 3.5" or 4" single exhaust with a bullet in the I-pipe and a borla muffler at the back, but I would have so much time and money in it compared to an X-pipe and 2 bullets and turn downs. But I guess I will have to see how loud it will be.
SS MPSTR 04-03-2007, 12:19 AM I've had the loud exhaust (and a few others), and I have to say that I'm a fan of the 'quiter' systems now - maybe I'm just old now but the ricky-racer sound was cool for just so long before I was ready to ditch it. It draws way too much unwanted attention, everyone wants to run ya or play on the street, and did I mention the droning and raspiness just gets old?

and your car? whats it sound like a caddy? I doubt it!

LOL yeah because the SLP exhaust is probably the quitest exhaust I have heard
J/K, I don't have a problem with loud exhausts, but the ricer thing needs to go IMO. The actual tuners I don't mind, but some of these guys with a completely stock car with a muffler that they can stick their head in is just stupid and they drive it like its fast cause its loud.
I'm not trying to start a war here, but I just wanted to see if anyone is getting messed with by the cops for LTs X pipe and bullets, because I know its going to be loud but I don't want to get hassled about it
jsetzer 04-05-2007, 12:33 PM Look at where these people are from too. I am guessing that In Wisconsin you don't have traffic Nazis crawling the streets like in SoCal.
The only time I have had a cop gripe about exhaust here in ok (had bullets dumped) I got stopped for another reason, and then he griped abotu the exhaust too. I have sit next to cops at stop lights dozens of times, they never seem to care.
sn8ke eatr 04-05-2007, 02:35 PM i got pulled over for revving at a light LOL next to my friends geo. my car is basically stock with a pos flowmaster cb. the cop told me i intended to race. i explained clearly i wasent and he "gave me a break" what a dick...
AmericanMuscle33 04-06-2007, 02:53 AM We have a local noise ordinance in effect 24hrs a day. It's a small town. The ordinance is absolutely rediculous; it's 50ft for cars and 100ft for houses. Then after 10pm-6am it switches to 50ft for houses. However, none of us have ever been hassled for loud exhaust, and I've cruised around with open headers from time to time, inbetween builds. They do use it for houses constantly...it's a college town, and they write noise violations like crazy around here.
BassProCamaro97 04-06-2007, 11:16 AM I have never gotten pulled over for my exhaust. I have the same setup as your describing but I have 40 series mufflers. I'm just aware if I see cops on the road I don't hammer on it. How loud the exhaust is depends on how loud you want to make it with your right foot.
The loud exhaust pulls attention to you and lets them know you are comming. If you are speeding your an easy target. Guys who get pulled over for loud exhaust are usally getting a ticket for something else. The exhaust is the excuse to pull you over.

Spyderking69 04-06-2007, 12:08 PM all depends on what the cops are liek in your area, here its not bad you ca be loud and not have too many problems

This has happened to me before. Cracked Y-pipe = loud, and a cop pulled me over from taking off from a redlight "too fast". Told me never to take off like that again, but I didn't argue with him because he let me off. Now, if the ticketbook came out, I would have had him take a look at the gaping 1' crack in the exhaust.
Just keep an eye out and don't piss off the cops. Lay off the throttle if you spot one and just coast.

good advice right there... no one wants an unwanted ticket.... ecspecially on their insurance
camaro1fastz28 04-08-2007, 01:44 PM in nj there is no ticket for loud exhaust it has to be loud and smoking
