Hey I wanted to know about how much miles per gallon I would save if I installed a K&N FIPK(they advertise better gas mileage) on my 1994 z28 in normal driving conditions. Also does those tornado things that spin the air that enters the intake work? I'm trying to save a little gas because gas is getting outrageous again. Any help from you guys that have either mods on your cars and any other mods I can do to get better gas mileage. Thanks

I don't think you'll see a measurable improvement in fuel mileage with a K&N. It's going to flow better at high RPM, but isn't going to change much of anything at low load/cruise.
Just off hand, what purpose do you feel would be served by "spin(ning) the air as it enters the intake"? You would have to mount it between the MAF sensor and the throttle body. The "spinning" could alter the MAF calibration even though its after the sensor, and as soon as the "spinning" air hit the dividing wall and the two individual bores of the throttle body, any "spinning" would disappear. Then the air enters the plenum of the intake manifold, where it is supposed to slow down to assist even distribution to the 8 intake runners. So.... I'd say "no" to the Tornado and anything similar.
To save fuel, drive more conservativey. If you've got a manual, get it up to 2,000rpm quickly in each gear and then shift, putting it in O/D as frequently as you can without "lugging" the engine. Also with the manual, leave the "skip shift' feature engaged.... GM put it there to help the corporate fuel economy (CAFE) numbers with better fuel mileage. Make sure your plugs, wires, injectors and O2 sensors are in good condition. When cruising, move the throttle like there was a raw egg between your shoe and the pedal :)

u might get a mpg or 2, i doubt any real change though. as for the tornado.. stupid waste of money imo.

with the kandn FIPK you might see 1mpg more than your average now and 7-9rwhp. as injuneer said, how long is the spinning going to last before the throttle body and plenum where its mounted. all it does is cause less CFM and more friction on incoming air. I saw an article a while back where they tried it on a car and they lost something like 3 or more hp and gas milage fell.
