Thumping from Auto Trans???

Okay so please dont make fun for me not knowing any better. I have NEVER owned a car with an auto besides a couple SUVs. I got a great deal on a 93 z28 and was told the trans was slipping a little. So...if I get on it a little it sounds like it is slipping and then slamming into gear. It truly feels like it is coming through the damn floorboard. When driving normal it drives and shifts fine.

So now my question is...is this thing slipping and need rebuild? Is it a mount? Is it a U joint? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the interior cabin or console shake when you hear the "THUD" ?

I would crawl up underneath and check the tranny mount. It's towards the back of the transmission. If it breaks it will sound like it's trying to come through the damn floorboard. They're pretty inexpensive though, like less than 20 bucks.

The tranny mount is a common failure on automatics.

It's the tranny mount. Whenever mine broke it did exactly what you are describing and about scared the **** out of me. You can't really tell that it is broken though until you take the mount out, and it falls into two pieces.

Energy suspension poly mount at Autozone for 20-25 bucks. Works like a charm.

OMG I love you guys! I was thinking that I needed a new or rebuild on the trans. I never have dealt with damn autos so no clue Yes to the question above it sounds like and feels like the whole center console is coming up and going to be in my lap! Sounds like I am going to get some mounts soon as soon as I check it. Now to figure out why the damn thing keeps overheating and it will be running perfect Thanks so much guys I love you all for the help!!

overheating of the engine, or tranny? if its the engine check your coolant level and change if it isnt green. tranny change the fluid and filter. thats why my cougar was slipping in and out of gear and a fluid change cost me 30 bucks with a filter. overheating of the tranny is terrible and will fail shortly if you keep driving like this.
