Quick Poll - Do you currently use a screen saver? Would you?JasonD 03-26-2007, 06:41 PM Need some info for a project I am working on for this site, and would like some input. This poll will run for a week. Please answer honestly. 97z28/m6 03-26-2007, 08:52 PM i voted "Yes, I use one and I do not change it." only cause i haven't found a better one. mdacton 03-26-2007, 08:56 PM If I had one with some naked chicks I might go for it JakeRobb 03-26-2007, 09:00 PM My screen just turns itself off after 15 minutes of idle time. If I'm not at the computer, why should there be anything on the screen? Whatever... I have a Mac, so it's not like any CZ28 screensavers would be compatible anyway... or would they? CALL911 03-26-2007, 09:22 PM Yes, I run a screen saver. I usually change it often. Right now I have the movie "300" screen saver up. ChevalierSS 03-26-2007, 09:41 PM I use a screen saver, but it is only on for about 5 minutes before the power save mode kicks in. Right now I've got a C6 screen saver I downloaded from the Corvette Museum. I've had it on my computer since I bought it about 18 months ago. I'd like a good Trans Am screen saver if anyone knows where I can get one. jg95z28 03-27-2007, 11:19 AM I use the Windows screen saver at home to randomly select photos. For a while it was various Camaro photos I had collected, but now its photos of my lab. At work I don't use a screen saver, but I simply turn off my monitor when I'm away from my desk. Casull 03-27-2007, 11:41 AM I use one, but don't change it often just becasue i am too lazy to look for one. I used the Camaro screensaver on the GMperformance website, but recently changed it to this really cool one that assembles an LS engine step by step... by far the coolest one I have found so far... http:/www.smallblockscreensaver.com jg95z28 03-27-2007, 12:06 PM I use one, but don't change it often just becasue i am too lazy to look for one. I used the Camaro screensaver on the GMperformance website, but recently changed it to this really cool one that assembles an LS engine step by step... by far the coolest one I have found so far... http:/www.smallblockscreensaver.com Now that is a cool screensaver! :D IROC-T 03-27-2007, 06:08 PM Mine only runs for about 30mins. then goes to sleep. I was told by a reputable person that with colored monitors you don't need a screen saver, they don't burn in like the old ones, so it's kinda redundant. Casull 03-27-2007, 06:45 PM Mine only runs for about 30mins. then goes to sleep. I was told by a reputable person that with colored monitors you don't need a screen saver, they don't burn in like the old ones, so it's kinda redundant. The color doesn't have an any effect on whether or not you get burn in, it is dependent on the technology. Any type of CRT monitor can get burn-in whether it is color or black and white. With LCD monitors you don't have to worry about anything as they are not susceptible to burn-in. With that said, CRT technology has come far enough along that burn-in is not nearly as prevelant as it once was; however, I don't use a screensaver to prevent burn-in. I just use it becasue I think they are cool. jg95z28 03-27-2007, 07:21 PM Mine only runs for about 30mins. then goes to sleep. I was told by a reputable person that with colored monitors you don't need a screen saver, they don't burn in like the old ones, so it's kinda redundant. Not true. I have a 21-in CRT at home that has major burn-in. With a white background on any page you can see ghosts of all the desktop icons. :( IROC-T 03-27-2007, 07:26 PM The color doesn't have an any effect on whether or not you get burn in, it is dependent on the technology. If you were to go out and buy a brand new CRT today, turn it on, put an image on the screen, and leave it there, it would probably take over a week to burn in. Ten years ago, it was a few hours. Twenty years ago, it was a few minutes. Plasma TVs can burn in, and it only takes a few minutes. That's why DVD players and DVRs have screen saver modes. LCD and DLP are pretty much safe. :) gray20 03-28-2007, 12:27 AM I use one, but don't change it often just becasue i am too lazy to look for one. Same here, I still have the windows xp screen saver on. shock6906 03-28-2007, 11:44 AM I use a screensaver at home, it's all pictures of my cars, fish, and car show pictures that I've taken over the past several years. It's the only one I ever use. LPE_wannabe 03-28-2007, 11:45 AM no screen saver cause my laptop just goes to sleep...BUT i'm always looking for cool wallpapers!!! TheMT1 03-29-2007, 01:40 AM I normally don't use a screen saver. I only started using one because the GM Camaro Logo screen saver looks so great on my 24" Dell LCD. It comes on after 3 minutes of idle time and the screen turns off at 5 minutes idle time. Otherwise, I haven't really used a screen saver in 7 or 8 years. The Blue Screen of Death screen saver makes a great prank though! :D pHEnomIC 03-29-2007, 11:04 AM Let's just put it this way, im not paying money for a screen saver when there are thousands I can get for free or even make my own. KuruptWS6spd 03-29-2007, 11:19 AM I never use one. My computer can play the top games out there without a glitch but as soon as you try to come back from a screen saver it gets all jumpy. JasonD 03-29-2007, 11:43 AM Let's just put it this way, im not paying money for a screen saver when there are thousands I can get for free or even make my own. For the record, what I am looking to do won't cost anyone any money...except me. :) Just want to make sure I won't be spending money for no reason. I'd use it. :) pHEnomIC 03-29-2007, 12:53 PM For the record, what I am looking to do won't cost anyone any money...except me. :) Just want to make sure I won't be spending money for no reason. Then i would use it ;) jchrisos 03-29-2007, 01:45 PM Yes, I use one and I do not change it. I definitely would if there was a good Camaro screensaver. Also, I use a 24" 1920x1200 at work and a 22" 1680x1050 at home, so it would need to look good on those bad boys :-) 1987IROC350 03-29-2007, 03:05 PM I voted I use and change often. It is the "My Pictures" slide show. On the holidays I let the kids use one they download. I only use the most recent photos is why I chose I change often. 2000GTP 03-29-2007, 03:57 PM I don't use one, but if you have a cool one up your sleeve, I will most likely add it.:) WS6NIGHTMARE 03-29-2007, 07:05 PM For the record, what I am looking to do won't cost anyone any money...except me. :) Just want to make sure I won't be spending money for no reason. Id like a good Camaro screen saver, your money wont go to waste on my end. thom1 04-09-2007, 12:46 PM I generally stick to the native OS screen savers. I remember too many nightmares from way back when I used to load any "popular" screen saver I could find like afterdark or johnny castaway JasonD 04-12-2007, 05:57 PM I remember too many nightmares from way back when I used to load any "popular" screen saver I could find like afterdark or johnny castaway What kind of "nightmares"? thom1 04-12-2007, 08:55 PM What kind of "nightmares"? System lock ups and blue screens. I'm thinking a long time ago though and I have been sticking with the Native Windows or Linux screen savers for 10 years or more now. There was nothing more annoying than hitting a key to get back into your machine while the screen saver was up and finding it locked and you had to reboot and find that you lost data. Wow, I can't remember ever having problems with screen savers causing crashes. I thought you literally meant you were having nightmares about poor Johnny. http://web.onetel.net.uk/~gnudawn/johnny/ thom1 04-17-2007, 04:04 PM Wow, I can't remember ever having problems with screen savers causing crashes. I thought you literally meant you were having nightmares about poor Johnny. http://web.onetel.net.uk/~gnudawn/johnny/ Wow I can't believe thats still out there. Yes it used to cause a lot of lock ups and crashes on our office PCs. Serves us right I guess. We should have been working instead of watching the cartoon screen savers all night. Bayer-Z28 04-18-2007, 02:02 AM Huh... I've never been in here... I do use a screen saver. CZ28.com saver?? I used to use my pics file slideshow screen saver. I have been using the matrix code for a long time now. JasonD 04-18-2007, 05:13 PM I do use a screen saver. CZ28.com saver?? I made a few a couple of years or so ago, shareware versions but they are kind of old and I need to update them... http://www.camaroz28.com/screensaver/ But I wanted to offer something cool to everyone for free. Still working on it but it is going to happen, thanks for the input, all! Klypto 04-25-2007, 12:25 AM used to set it to go blank, but now i have a folder i put abunch of high res pics in, and makes a slide show.. pretty cool :0 | ||
