Hello all,
Fiirst off I want to build a 383 stroker from scratch bare block and work my way up my question is I want to use a T56 6-speed and I had read something about needing a one piece main seal crank is this true and do I need a certain block or is this an easily changed thing from one block to another. also I am putting this in an 84 camaro with a v6 and a 5-speed manual transmission.

Centerforce sells T-56 flywheels for int and ext balanced engines, 1-piece and 2-piece main seals. So basically just build the engine and then order the flywheel to match what you have. The stock LT1 flywheel will only work if you have a 1-piece main, and LS1 parts are totally not compatible, so ignore them completely.

Great Thanks for the info:bow: that makes things less complicated which is good also what would be the best setup on a 383 stroker im probably gonna do a 3.75 stroke and 6" rods but what kind of heads would be best yet not cost me an arm and a leg and is a holley 750 and an edelbrock performer rpm gonna work well and last we'll this setup hold up to a single or dual stage NOS in the future if I decide to go that route. Thanks again for the info I appreciate the help.

I just did this swap into my 91Z. IMO the easiest thing to do with the setup is to get a newer block, one with a 1pc rear main seal. Then get an internally balanced 383 crank. That way you can use the stock T56 flywheel, and the same 6.75" balancer. Also a newer block will be set up for a roller cam. And you DO want to use a roller cam. An aftermarket T56 flywheel for a 2pc rear main or externally balanced setup will cost around $300 I think. So unless you already have a block in mind, the easiest thing to do is get a 87+ block. As for how well it will take to your nitrous, that depends on your fuel system and piston selection. You're probably gonna have to get a forged piston if you use a 6" rod, most companies just don't make them cast or hypereutectid for that kind of setup.

so with that mine being an 84 is it easier to go with the carb. or is it worth it to deal with the wiring and computer and reprogramming of thr Prom I mean does it make a substantial difference in the engine

There is no reason you can't run a new style block and a carb intake. The only difference besides a very minor intake bolt angle difference is the one peice seal. All accessories, headers, mounts, and everything else you have on you current engine will bolt up. Plus as Quickchick pointed out, you will already be set up for a roller cam, and this saves you the expense of retro style roller lifters. I personally went from a one peice, to a two peice, just because I got such a good deal on my engine, but if you are doing a build, save the bucks of the aftermarket flywheel, and gain the benefits of a roller set-up and get a new style block.
