i have change the spark plugs, and the coil pack,......
smithtim 03-15-2007, 11:12 AM you said you changed the spark plugs and the coil pack.. did you also do the other usuals like plug wires , injectors etc., for a miss
as the plugwires are common
juanrosales 03-15-2007, 11:18 AM no i havenīt change them, do you have a recomendation for what type of msd fitīs my car, cause i have to buy them in summit racing or parts america, so they will send them to me here in guatemala
2000GTP 03-15-2007, 12:10 PM Do you have access to a scanner? If so, put it on a scanner and see what cylinder is registering the misfires. Then swap the plug, wires, injector, and coil pack one at a time from that cylinder to another and see if the problem follows. If it does, you know that particular part is defective.
juanrosales 03-15-2007, 12:49 PM they put the scanner and it give us p0300, and donīt apear any more codes.....and i find that p0300 is random.....
2000GTP 03-15-2007, 01:48 PM These are the MSD wires that come up for your application: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=MSD%2D32089&view=32&N=700+4294908216+4294908198+4294924666+4294925143+ 4294840137 I would also check over the car for any vacuum leaks. The plug wires may not necessarily be bad either, they may just have loose connections. It wouldn't hurt to make sure they are firmly seated on the plugs and coil packs.
smithtim 03-15-2007, 02:10 PM yeah defintely a vacum leak could be.. other thing in the back of my mind was fuel/air??
they put the scanner and it give us p0300, and donīt apear any more codes.....and i find that p0300 is random.....
it sounds like just a code reader that you are using.. the scanner should give alot more info than just the code (it should give all sorts of live vechile data).. you could take it in to a shop and have them do the full scaning but it'll probbaly cost about the same as the set of plug wires... and we all know on the 3.8s the plug wires do go wear out reguarrly so I'd probbaly go ahead and swap them first as it really can't hurt, but I geuss it really depends on if you want to drop the $60 on soemthing that may be a "geuss"...
isn't there a way to check the resitance on the plug wires... something like take them completley off the vechile (one by one) then test reistance from plug end to coil end??? anybody know the details
juanrosales 03-15-2007, 06:07 PM thanks to everyone, i all ready pay for the msd plug wires in summit, i gess will arrive in one week..... in the mean time..... iīm taken te car to a shop and, they have the scanner, the check all the sensors of the car.. i hope we found the problem there.... when i got an answer i tell you
smithtim 03-16-2007, 09:06 AM glad we could be of help.... on the car if it's not urgent I'd wait on intstalling the plug wires before takign to the shop to do the scanning.. as if the plug wires fix the problem then no need to pay the cost for the scanning
juanrosales 03-16-2007, 02:23 PM hi... again.... well let me tell you... today a recibe a call from the shop... and i have a vaccum leak,... in the brake booster... i need to change it.... thes said to me that when take off the vacumm hose of the brake booster and close the hose... they reset my ecm and my misfire disapear,... but i have another problem ..... they push the gas pedal and the car wont accelerate... sometime more is worng.... today they are going to check fuel sistem presure and a lot more..... do you have and idea that could help me fine what is wrong?
juanrosales 03-18-2007, 06:30 PM Hi, all.... well let me tell ya... cause my brake booster has a leak it damage my cat conveter (cause of the misfire),..... it broke down in pieces so my exaust was clogged... no wonder my car can not accelerate... so if this is anyhelp i share the story.... thanks to all of you guys for the help.....
2000GTP 03-18-2007, 07:35 PM Did you get a SES light due to the cat not functioning properly?
juanrosales 03-18-2007, 11:54 PM nop.... i dont get SES light, it should.... i donīt now why it dinīt came on
juanrosales 03-18-2007, 11:57 PM the cat... was broke in pieces inside.... so it clogged the exhaust... but no SES ligth s....rare... is it?
2000GTP 03-19-2007, 02:32 PM Considering there is a post cat 02 sensor that monitors the catalytic converter's efficiency, I would have expected it to post a code.
mdenz3 03-19-2007, 02:54 PM hi... again.... well let me tell you... today a recibe a call from the shop... and i have a vaccum leak,... in the brake booster... i need to change it.... thes said to me that when take off the vacumm hose of the brake booster and close the hose... they reset my ecm and my misfire disapear,... but i have another problem ..... they push the gas pedal and the car wont accelerate... sometime more is worng.... today they are going to check fuel sistem presure and a lot more..... do you have and idea that could help me fine what is wrong?
If the cars shakes on accel like you siad with the plugged cat, maybe that caused the p0300 misfire code and the vacuum booster is fine? I would say leave th ebrake booster and check it again after the cat is fixed.
And P0300 is just the code for a misfire(generic OBDII) p0301 p0302, etc would identifiy a cylinder.
juanrosales 03-19-2007, 09:45 PM thanks i will check it out
rhino2104 03-19-2007, 11:58 PM My 1999 did the exact same thing. I took it to the shop and they said it was throwing a p0300 code as well as having a clogged cat. They replaced the cat (as it was still under warranty thank god) and after about 60 or so miles the miss went away and the check engine light went out. I still replaced the spark plugs and wires for good measure though. I recommend getting your catalytic converter straightened out and then changing your plugs and wires.
juanrosales 03-28-2007, 11:49 PM thaks...let me tell you, i change the brake booster and the vacuum leak is gone.... that was cause the misfire.... and well....i also chance the spark plug and wires ... i put msd 8.5mm..... but i have a check engine ligth on still.... cause i have to change the catalytic converter.... but i run out of money... i hope to buy it soon.... anyone knows that if i use may car with out the catalytic converter it will damage my engine..... thanks again to everyone for the help....
smithtim 03-29-2007, 12:32 PM I'd think it should be fine for a short period of time as the cat is really just to make your exahust more "enviormentally fredinly" ... but it is always best to have everything runing correctley
juanrosales 03-29-2007, 08:30 PM Ok, i will tell you when i buy the catalytic converter... thanks for the advise....smithtim
silver6_maro 04-07-2007, 09:01 PM I just had the same problem with my car...1997 camaro rs, and it was shaking and misfiring really bad....i did a few things that you did (plugs, cat, wires) , and went to autozone to get my coils and ICM checked, and the ICM (ignition control module) was bad...so 150 dollars later, my problem id fixed, and my car runs amazing!!!!
