Due to the unexpected flood of people pre-ordering the CamaroZ28.Com Custom Die-Cast Camaro, I set up this thread to help answer people's questions.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them here in this thread!

Q: What is this all about?

CamaroZ28.Com has partnered with GreenLight Toys (http://www.greenlighttoys.com) to produce a Limited Edition 1/64 scale Custom Die-Cast Camaro!

* Limited to approximately 1,500 pieces
* Each one individually serial numbered
* Custom car design and wheels
* Special CamaroZ28.Com graphics, text, etc. on both sides of the packaging, including matching trading card
* Special "CZ28.COM" license plate on the cars themselves
* Officially Licensed by GM!

I have wanted to do this ever since I can remember. GreenLight makes some very nice cars, with excellent quality and detail, even at 1/64 scale. The effort to start this project happened over a year ago in this thread:

Q: Why do I want to pre-order?

Since the cars are individually and sequentially numbered, they will be sold in order. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a particular number.


Q: Okay, how to I get one?

UPDATE 8-1-07 We are temporarily SOLD OUT. So Jason, what does temporary mean? Glad you asked. :) To avoid selling more cars than available, I have halted sales until I can get caught up with shipping. Once I get all pre-orders shipped out, I will see how many I have left and then make those available for sale. Watch ththis thread for more updates!


Q: Can I pay by mail?

Since we are currently in the pre-order stage and cars are sequentially numbered are sold in order, trying to insert an order by mail into the middle of the online orders could cause problems with fulfillment. So, to avoid any errors, pre-ordering is online only.

However, once the cars are out of the pre-order stage and in the shipping stage, we will open up orders to both online and by mail (money order).


Q: Okay, I ordered, when will I get mine?

Full production to be completed approximately 60-90 days after the prototype has been issued and approved, which is expected to happen in April, 2007.
Once the supply has been received, shipping will begin in the order that the orders came in.

UPDATE 5-25-07!! The production schedule was previously verified, but a very minor licensing issue (incorrect verbage on package) will cause a slight delay....a couple of weeks or so. If calculations are correct, I expect to begin shipping the cars in mid-late July. See post #79 and #92 in this thread!

UPDATE 8-1-07!! Cars are shipping out every day in the order that they were pre-purchased in. I hope to have all preorders shipped out by 8-10-07



Q: What is a "Green Machine"?

Green Machine versions are GreenLight's special edition separate numbered run, and can be considered in this case to be a "limited edition of the limited editions". They will account for approximately 5% of the regular production run of the CamaroZ28.Com cars. They will be VERY rare and valuable. They will come with a matching certificate of authenticity.

Q: Okay, how do I get the "Green Machine" version?

Every 25th pre-ordered regular production car (up to the first 500) will get a CamaroZ28.Com Green Machine version to go along with it absolutely FREE (a total of 20 free Green Machines - the "Lucky 20"). As of 4-7-07, we believe we have reached the 500 pre-order mark, so reference to this has been removed from the pre-order page.

We may also give one or two away in the future in contests on our CamaroZ28.Com Podcast (http://www.camaroz28.com/podcast/) or otherwise.


Q: Why are people talking about "signature versions"?

The first 150 pre-orders (approximately 10% of the total run) had the option to be signed by the owners of this site (myself and Chris Frezza) and/or Scott Settlemire. They also will come with a matching numbered certificates of authenticity. They sold out within hours.


Q: Will there be more? What about 1/18 scale?

Depending on the success of this project, there may be additional versions to make a series. So far, so good!

The odds of an order not making to me are pretty slim, but if you are concerned or just want to make sure, you can e-mail and ask at jason@camaroz28.com. Please make it easy for me to check and include ALL order information. Also note that it may take me some time to get back with you. Be patient, I will do my best to reply ASAP.
There is no way I can mention what serial number everyone will get. I would hate to count incorrectly and have someone disappointed. It will have to be a surprise! :)

I am basically a one-man show on this one. From the design to the shipping, I am pretty much handling all of this. I will try to be as precise as possible in doing this. Having said that, if there are any errors beyond my control (e-mail orders not making it to my inbox for one reason or another, technical glitches, etc.,) please understand that it is just that...beyond my control. I suppose my biggest concern is PayPal or Google not sending me an e-mail and someone not getting their order "in line" or something getting lost in the mail. In short, if something goes wrong, it is probably beyond my control and I will do whatever I can to make it right.

You won't see these in any Kroger or Piggly Wiggly. :D The only way to get them is right here on this web site. They may be available through die-cast vendors online in the future, but that hasn't been set up just yet. At the rate we are going, that may not even happen...we may sell out by then.

Funny this was brought up though because you know the silver and hugger orange cars from Greenlight that alot of us purchased several months ago from indy5turbopace? I just so happened to find them at Meijer last week and I picked up a couple more. Furthermore, they are actually part of a 13 car set that includes Coronets, Mustangs, Olds 442s, and 2nd-gen Camaros. I am working to get the set together right now.:cool: Will post pics when complete.:D

What luck I have, after not visiting the site for nearly 3 weeks and all but forgetting about the diecast project you put together, I signed on today to ask a question about my SATURN of all things, and the first thing that catches my eye is the Diecast thread... SCORE!!

I ordered one, and like other's have said, I didn't see any signature options so I assume I was too late... green chase car or not, this will be a very nice piece to add to my collection!

I used to own 3 camaro's......a 98 V6, a 97 Z28 and a 99 SS. I now own a 2005 GTO....but sure miss the F-body. You better believe I am waiting for the new camaro to come out and I will be the new kid on the block with one. Can't wait. Just ordered the die-cast replica...can't wait to see.

Yes, it isn't much more to send to Canada than to here in the US (unless someone knows something that I don't, and in that case...someone please school me!), so I am covering the extra cost to Canada.

Not sure if this would be permissable through the forums or not, I supposed I'd have to get Jason's approval, but I'd be more than happy to place online orders for those who can't do it themselves. If you sent cash/check/money order (preferably check or money order, nasty things happen with cash sometimes) I'd order through paypal and have it shipped to your address. Of course, only if it's alright with Jason, so any input?

I was told yesterday that a production prototype is now definitely in the works and I am expected to have it sometime in the near future. When I get it, I will shoot a series of images so everyone can get a good look at what the "real deal" should look like. I know a lot of people held off on pre-ordering because they wanted to wait and see what the real car would look like since so far we only have artistic renderings available. Despite that...yes, things are moving along nicely so far. :D

Well, I can understand that it is not easy for some people to shell out for something that haven't actually seen, and of course the renderings only show what the die-cast car was based on.

So, until I get the prototype in my hands and pics here on the board, use this formula.

I am sure you won't have to ask twice to get Scott to sign it. Make sure you get out and see the Camaro concepts while they are "on tour" and you should get your chance. :)

Glad you asked, I just got word a little earlier today that I am expected to get the prototype possibly before the end of this week! :cool: I am pretty excited about that. I will look them over and as long as it looks like I think it should, I will give the production approval. Once I give the approval, we are looking at approximately 60 days until they ship to you guys!

Is there anyway i could possibly get the address changed? I originally read it thinking they were going to shipped out to us in April so i had used my school address where i am unlikely to be when they actually are shipped. Im still not 100% sure where im going to be for the summer (depends on if i get an internship near school or home) so i dont know right now.

For those who were wondering, about 2/3s of the run has already been pre-sold!

This is good because if this run sells out (which it will at this rate), the value of all the cars will go up in theory. The more this reaches the sold-out point, the better the chances are of me being able to do a second series (different car and package design, of course).

If you haven't gotten your order in yet, don't wait too long or it might be too late! :cool:

I was just informed that there was an interesting issue regarding the CamaroZ28.Com Custom Die-Cast car that everyone (including myself) has been waiting for. Evidently, there was a slight and unexpected issue with some of the verbage on the cardboard inserts inside the packaging and a tweak or two to the artwork needed to be made per GM's licensing division request. It was very minor, but when it comes to GM's licensing division, they are pretty firm on things. It really is not a big deal but believe me, I am just about as bummed about this as you guys might be, I am dying for these cars to arrive! Fortunately, it shouldn't add too terrible of a delay. Making the necessary changes are going to push the cars back a couple of weeks or so. Nothing really major, but I wanted to let everyone know anyway.

So here is the cool part...a BONUS OFFER to help make up for it!
Even though the added delay isn't too long, Greenlight and I came up with a nifty way to to try to make it up to everyone with a cool bonus deal. Yeah, I know, I am not any happier about it than anyone else. I was pretty bummed when I got the phone call but it is only an extra couple of weeks or so, I think it could have been a lot worse.

I submitted the updated artwork immediately for as little additional delay as possible.

As always, I will be updating this thread when more info comes in.

The delay was some minor bad news, but more than offset by the generous offer for the additional cars. :thumb:

I think you are referring to the dealer who was selling them here a few months back. I believe there are the 3 from the 1st series run that are the "bonus deal" mentioned here in this thread (red, black, silver) and then I think there is one more customized version that is orange with stripes. I think that is it, but there may be more variations that I don't know of.

Not at all. They are all still sold sequentially. Basically, each order got assigned a serial number which does change.

Great to hear that the serial number sequence won't change. I want to think that I was able to order one of the first ones, so I want to see what I got.

Also, no problem on the delay. I was actually expecting it. It'll be like Christmas when I receive them. I almost don't want to know when they ship :D

They will start shipping next week if all goes well. The signature editions (which you ordered) may not be delayed as mentioned above, but that still needs to be determined. Either way, I don't think a change of address is required. Watch this thread, here is where I make the updates.

Thats great news. I know we are all pacing the floor, but like all good things the wait will be well worth it. It is a large task to sort and box all those vehicles.

The misprint is what really set us back. Since this is the first time we have done this, I don't think there will be the same roadblocks when we do the second one. Not yet, because they officially start shipping out Monday! I have received and inspected and sorted the cars and they are good to go! This was a MUCH bigger undertaking than I had expected, my apologies for underestimating that. Next time will be different.

Scott Settlemire came to my house earlier this week and sat down and signed the cars that he need to, Chris Frezza is coming over tonight to sign the cars that we are supposed to.

I will be spending all of this weekend and all of next week shipping!

I will say that everyone that I have showed the cars to (which included some who graciously helped me sort them) think they look great and I am sure you will as well!

Things like address changes, multiple different orders, etc. could delay them. There were a LOT of orders within the first few days versus a couple of weeks later so you can't base it on date.

Guys, please don't worry until at least a few days after I announce they are all shipped out. I have been doing my best to get them sorted, boxed and shipped so everyone is getting what they ordered correctly the first time. I expect to have them all shipped next week. I will announce when they are sent.

Well, I personally am disappointed in not being able to forsee some of the obstacles that I am running into. First there was a delay that was out of my hands a couple of months ago (mentioned before), and then some problems sorting and shipping and other things that are making this take a bit longer. For my first time out, I expected less issues to work through. However, I am indeed powering through them as best as I can. I hope this is my last weekend doing this, I want it to be done and I want everyone to have their cars!!

Next time later this year, I will go into the next car project knowing more of what to expect and everyone will be happier as a result.

It technically would be a Green Machine, but they are not numbered as far as I know, the base inside the packaging hides the bottom.
