Nitto 555RII's on a daily driver?

Time for tires again and I'm seriously considering the 555RII's....I have a roadcourse event coming up in May but the car is primarily a daily driver and probably won't see the roadcourse again until early fall. Anybody use these tires in similar conditions? I'm not overly concerned with the wear (as long as they'll last a year / 12000 miles) but am mildly apprehensive about the ride quality. I hate a "plush" riding car but with 275/40/17's there's not a lot of sidewall to absorb bumps....will these things knock you cross-eyed on a bumpy street?

I've been wondering the same thing. I'd really rather not buy a set of these every year, but I'm curious about what to expect in terms of ride quality with NT01's or 555RII's.

I figure I'd more likely get a second set of wheels and only use the race tires when I'm going racing.

I briefly considered the extra wheels option, but the more I thought about it the more out of control it started getting ;)
Stock SS wheels for the street, 15" wheels for the dragstrip and then another set of 17" wheels for the roadcourse....I don't even have room to store that many wheels!
I was kinda hoping I could get "acceptable" performance under all 3 conditions with the RII's. I'm pretty confident they'll perform better than any street tire at the strip and roadcourse, I'm just unsure of how much "comfort" I'll give up on the street. Guess I'll just have to take the plunge and find out....there are worse problems in life than stiff tires ;)

The RII's are are pretty soft so don't expect too much wear out of them from daily driving. They're basicly a track tire that can be driven on the street. Depending on the track, you may not get much time out of them at all. There is one up here that is a tire eater. Its an old municiple airport.

If you want a street tire thats good for the track, then look at the Kumho MX or Falken RT615. I'm running 615s on a daily driver. I like them better than the BFG KD I previously had on the car.

275-40-17 is the stock size for 17" equipped f-bodies. They're not bad at all as far as ride. Again, this is my experience daily driving and taking trips on tires like the KD and RT615 which have stiff sidewalls. The KD's were stiff enough that when one got punctured and lost all air, the sidewalls still supported the weight. Not like a runflat, but much better than other radials I've been around. I thought there was a little air pressure left in them because of how they looked.

should be here on wed - cant wait car is being completely overhauled
