i have a lt1 with trw 12:1 pistons and i changed the rod bolts to arp. cc306 cam and stage 2 heads. will the bottom end last with a 250 shot? with proper dyno tuning.

not for very long, maybe with a progressive controller it will go longer. but thats a lot of compression and stress on the stock stuff as so as it is, then an instant pop of 250 more horses, even if tuned well is going to be pushing it

Maybe with some nice forged pistons. I wouldnt go past a 175 to 200 with it.

There's a guy w/ a caprice that's been spraying a 250 shot on a stock short block lt1 around here for 2 seasons.....

i'm surprised it has lasted this long

Yeah, thats a big shot. How many of us would feel that lucky trying something like that?

pill it til you kill it

if he's running nitrous on top of a 306 cam on a damn near stock short block, he's using that mentality.... why not just go all out with it.

Seeing that you already have heads/cam work done to the car, I think a 250 shot will definitely be pushing it.

I meant to say a nice set of forged rods, not pistons.

i have a 434 stroker that i am building i just don't think that it will be done this summer... i will start with a 200 and see how it goes...

They always say, start low and work your way up. Might not be a bad idea to start with a 100 shot and work your way up from there.

you guys have more experance on this, than me so i will start low. do dyno runs and see how my a/f is and if i am picking up any knock.

u dont really need a dyno run..... just do a datalog of your car while spraying and see if you are picking up any knock or detonation

unless you want to play with the jets... then you do need a dyno...

Yes a 250 shot will be pushing the stock rods and crank pretty hard....

All that aside you also have the problem of the poor flow the LT1 intake provides. Not only would I suggest dataloging the runs but read the spark plugs as well. Watch number 6 and 8 expecially.
If you have a directport you can throw more fuel in the cylinders that are running leaner.

If you do not have a directport you will just have to run a richer over all nitrous tune to keep the hot cylinders safe. Another thing you can do is run a colder plug in the cylinders running hotter.
