Rust on Rotors.

Any tips on keeping my rotors looking nice and shiny? My car is a daily driver and sees rain and liiight snow (bad snow = take dad's truck) And they always seem to get lots of rust on them and now that I have these 17" ZR1s there's soo much open space where you can see the rotors and I want to make them look better.

For what it's worth I think the car will need a brake job soon, not sure how worn the rotors are. I'd like to do a LS1 Brake swap but I don't think it'll happen untill my next brake job.

Nothing you can do, that rust is normal. Anyways after a few stops the Brake pads clean it off. Other ares of the rotor is another story unless you want to spend "x" number of dollars on zinc plated rotors.

yeah I'm kinda thinking zinc coating would help a lot. Wasn't sure if you could spray paint them or something but I assumed not.

High temp paint can be used on the rotors in the non-pad areas to control rust.

20lb castings? Not even Brembos weigh that much. Only ones I've seen in that ranger are Baer.

I asked the ws6store how much their rotors weighed when I was getting some brakes and they said 16.5lbs.

I used High temp paint on my rotors. I just painted the "Hat" or the area where the wheel bolts on and isn't machined for pad contact. I also put a coat on around the outside edge where the vanes are.

This is how I see alot of people do it. If the extra effort involved is not a problem, then I would go this route. Otherwise, the coated rotors will run you some extra in change.

Irotors.com (http://irotors.com) Zinc Plated FTW.....

I have them on my Z and when it sat outside for a few weekd in the rain they were coating in mild sface rust. One drive up the street hit the brake normally a few times and off it came, and areas where the pads don't had no rust int he 1st place.

Also a solid Rotor, very nice:D

PS I use EBC Green Pads, but any High Performance pad should work (Hawk's seem to come highly reccomended and easier to find)
