Hey guys, my car has this HORRIBLE clunking noise (and I mean really bad) coming from the rear axle. It seems to be coming from the passenger side, and you can even feel it inside the car like vibrating up thru the seat. It happens when I drive over any cracks in the road or some really bumpy asphalt. Nothing happens over speed bumps though. Anyway, any ideas?

Loose rear LCA bolts can provide a clunking sound. Also check your torque arm mount and bolts as well as your tranny mount.

Whenever my rear shocks failed that is the sound I was getting. Check into that, they are not hard to replace, and depending on the mileage of your car they could probably use it.

Have you gone under the car and looked for anything that looks out of the ordinary? That would be my first step.

Yeah I did, nothing looked broken. Maybe Ill go under again and make a more thorough inspection.

One way to check shocks, besides looking for fluid leak, is to have a friend drive next to your car (while your driving) and observe tire movement (up and down) as the car drives over bumps. If the tires bounce (not dampened) your shocks are shot.

You can also inspect them for fluid leaks, assuming they are the original fluid style and not gas.
