Hard top or Rag Top

Has anyone noticed that there are no pics of the vert with the top up. I wonder if it could be a hardtop convertible?

thats because the vert doesnt have a top frame or top yet.

its just built to hold one as of now, and doesnt actually hold one yet.

I wont buy one at all if the vert is a hard top..........but I know its not ;)

The concept doesn't a top at all. But the production model will be a soft top.

The 4th gen cloth top is perfectly adequate for 4 season driving ... and I'm sure the 5th will be the same ... or better.

Ragtop. It's already going to be criticized for its weight; it doesn't need a hardtop to make matters worse.

Plus I'd like a trunk that I can fit my golf clubs in.

Rag top is fine. My rag top hasn't given me any problems, and it is driven all year long. The hard top is just going to add even more weight to an already likely hefty car.

Was going to buy a 3rd gen soft top and went to look at and when we came back to the car 30 mins later cause I meet him at an arena the top was slashed. That's a nice 2G+ bill to fix. No thanks I'll only buy hard top.

In hindsight, I should've bought the convertible with the M6, over the t-top with the A4. Heck that's what we have insurance for right? :D

I completely agree. Hard top is MUCH better looking as well as not easily slashed open like the rag top.

i like the looks of a hard top better than rag top as well.. but i don't think that's enough to outweigh the costs of more weight and less trunk space

Going through situation right now and it's making me sour on getting another soft top. I think I'm going to go with the hard top anyway.

Ive been always drawn to the coupe because i dont like the looks of ragtops but if gm made a hardtop version i might just be tempted to buy one.
P.S. this is a little off topic but How come the camaro couldnt have t tops or a targa top but it can have a convertible? That one has been buging me for a while. I would think a convertible would be more dangerous.

I think convertibles and hard tops have different crash standards

that would make sense, I wonder if they did a targa top if they could classify it as an convertible. Tecnicly a convertable is a car having a top that may be lowered or removed(webster). Any one else seeing this loophole?

Targas are classified as hardtops.

I'd have to say hard top... It would prolly have some kind of electric assist, or whatever they call it. Plus if anyone REALLY wants to get into a rag top, all they need is a sharp knife.

I just hope for performance sake that the engineers design the convertable as an intended convertable from the ground up. Which means stiffer body and sub frame reinforcements to reduce cowl shake and chasis flex. Older Camaro convertables were very flimsy in comparison to their hard top counterparts.

I myself will buy the hard top with a moonroof. I just prefer the added security of curtain airbags and the more solid structure of a hard roof.

Maybe its just me, but I don't see why thats all that much of a concern.

What of value are you going to have in your car for an extended period of time in a non visible area?

Personal electronics are so cheap and so mass produced there is little reason to steal them... Everyone already has a Blackberry and an Ipod. Any headunit made in the last ten years has a detachable plate and my ten year old cousin knows the radio is useless without it.

If you've got the type of job where you need to carry a big sack of cash or the secret Enron papers then why are you leaving that in the car, let alone in the passenger compartment?

The only convertible I want is with a retractable hard top.

I LOVE the lines of the coupe's roof. To me, A soft top would look "odd" when up. Even though I love driving with Tor targa tops off, moon/sun roofs do absolutely NOTHING for me.

If a hard vert top following the lines of the coupe were offered, I'd be VERY tempted to go for a convertible. I just don't think a soft top could give the same look.
