what kind of mods can I do to pump out ~55 more hp?

and.. whats on the inexpensive/easy to do side?

and yea, taking out seats and the spare tire jack work, but you cant take them out when.. they're already out =]

call me a tard, but how much would getting a magnaflow catback bump me?

You're going to have to dig into the engine or find a form of forced induction for 55 HP.

So, that means nothing cheap.

Catback? A few HPs, maybe.

Catback, CAI and cam. Turbo/supercharged = double engine specs + much more.

Several sixers run 350/370/412 at the wheels. :)

All depends on what you can/will do. Boy, this section is barren.

One simple mod: nitrous :D

have head that the 3.8's in grand prix claim an increase HP of 40 over stock 3.8 when they add the turbocharger... but I don't know if I belvie it as I just bought one to commute to work in and I don't think it is that much, if any, faster than my 3.8 stock fbird was.... but I think it's just me not being used to that FWD thing???

persoanl thought: to add that much HP going to have to go way into the motor so I would be thinking of a swap to a 5.7... just my 0.2

The aftermarket, turbocharger should add more then 40 horsepower to the 3.8 engine, at least I would hope so considering the cost of the kit. Are you maybe thinking of the GTP model that is supercharged? The Grand Prix GT with the N/A 3.8L makes 200 HP whereas the Grand Prix GTP makes 240 HP.

OK, tard...catback alone is likely 5-7. You didn't mention an intake so if you don't have one yet, get one. The catback (with an intake) would likely add about 10-12 though you would have to dyno to get an exact number.

Inexpensive and easy would be swapping in an aluminum driveshaft. That may free up a few horses but will help with acceleration.

You could always supercharge, swap the motor, or go nitrous...depending on your budget.

BTW, what mods do you have?

No mods right now, I got it 2 months ago, looking to break away from the 'completely stock' setup.

I'm not exactly an automotive genius, and I don't want to do a bunch of **** to my car thats prone to get ****ed up, because this is my DD.

I have ~$4000

the most I really want to spend is $2000

Nitrous is the easiest way....just do a complete system with all the safety stuff....probly run you around $1500, I have a wet kit really cheap, I would never use an aluminum DS...they are bad news, you won't gain anything over a steel that would be noticable(please noone argue with me on this) at the very most you would get half a tenth and the weather change would make more of a diff than that.

BTW I buila an engine for a friend...its a stock headed rebuilt 305 SBC....it made 230 at the wheels and the car runs 13.0 at 106 so that goes to show you alot is in the set-up of the car....thats where the most or your money should go...in the car not the engine.

If you want to lose rotating weight...like swapping to an aluminum DS....checkout wheels and tires, you will get alot more from that than anything else, FI is on all the time so remember that before you make the jump, nitrous you cut the switch off and have you normal car... I have never met anyone that has run FI that hasn't had a problem with a head unit overtime

EWWW no, no nitrous. Rofl. I had a 3.4L with pacesetters, K&N CAI. Ported heads MSD wires, Underdrive pullys and a Jet STG II PCM chip. gave me a little unnnffffffhh. Then I got a bike...welp the chevys not a 3.4 anymore...

Have a machinist work yor heads and intake a little. Maybe even your throttle body. Get a K&N CAI (cold air intake) and do a few bolt ons, (MSD wires Under Drive pullys jet stg II chip) see how you like it, if you don't Cam it if you can find a cam... or can do the work.

btw i still have the underdrives and msd wires for grabs. The motor, pipes, and chip are gone.

let me know if this helps. Goodluck!

After looking at the work involved, and parts required to do a swap, would't it be easier/more cost effective to forgo a swap for buying a Z28 or turbo/supercharger?

yeah, it actually is, so I'm just going to keep this how it is until I buy my 5th gen =]

youre abolsultey right my mixup... geuss if you look in my sig you'll probbably get a little laugh, but truth is I bought that Gran Prix the same day my fbird blew on I-95 and I wasn't into looking into the details of it.. just walked in with a check and walked out with a car... (OK did carfax and dealt 2K of the price)

been driving it to work and haven't even poped the hood... think I'm getting old
