Question - What is so special or modified about this Camaro to give it 381hp? I rarely hear of modded LS1s going that high - and would like to model my performance after this car!
Whats so special about it?
Hawkfish 11-21-2002, 10:29 PM Here is a link to GMMG's site about the berger:

I have a feeling that the 380hp might be at the crank and not RWHP but I am not 100% sure of that.
danz28123 11-21-2002, 10:59 PM not to sound skeptical, but I don't think that they get it up to 380 hp with just a lid and cat-back exhaust. Those are the only performance mods listed.
ratio411 11-21-2002, 11:09 PM It wouldn't be hard for them at all. These cars are rated at the flywheel.
LS1s are well underrated to start with... There's a BIG headstart right there. You figure LS1s pull near 300 RWHP, but is only rated a little over 300 FWHP... Not possible. The true flywheel power of an LS1 would have to be about 360 to make what they do at the wheels. So now all they have to do is make 21 FWHP to get 381. They come with lids and cat-back... Those are probably good for 20+ at the wheels, so that more than covers the flywheel.
Lid... Cat-back... $20k more than a standard Z... That's about it.

dist0rtion_69 11-22-2002, 03:10 AM I am also a believer that it makes 380 fly wheel hp.. Most manual ls1's dyno 300-320rwhp. Which with a lid and catback would be damn close to 381 flywheel. However, if you rarely hear of modded LS1's going that high, you are mistaken :) A very very lightly modded LS1 goes that high. Long tube headers/lid alone should put you over 400hp. Modded stock cube ls1's are making upwards 450rwhp+ with cam/head packages. Some are extremey reliability (depending on how high they spin it). Just in case you didn't know :) Or if you did know, that's cool too.. Just trying to spread the knowledge.
teal monster 11-22-2002, 05:56 AM what about the tom henry 435hp camaro? can be seen at the home page of this web site . damm thats a sweet ride.
JimMueller 11-26-2002, 01:33 AM Modified is a pretty vague term. Yes, it's unusual for a dealer to offer a modified car. Current state of the art on a 346ci NA setup is 445-455RWHP. That'd be with $3000+ heads, $500 cam, $1000 headers, $400 LS6 intake if the car is 98-00, $500 for tuning, etc. Helluva lot less than the $20K premium, but the driving characteristics will be different, as will the warranty ;)
chevy qc 11-28-2002, 12:13 PM pulley, programmer, exhaust, and lid. they picked the number though from their numbers. the 3 was dales number, the 8 was jr.'s number, and the 1 i believe had something to do with parks number. i seen it listed somewhere before. it's a bit of an over-rating, but it works for them.
35thanniv.SS 11-28-2002, 01:21 PM My dad's friend has an '02 intimedator SS. It's blue with gray stripes (looks almost like the 35th). When he popped the hood I only noticed an slp lid probably with filter. But after the factory the car was sent out and had some motor work done, like a little better cam and maybe a little head modification. It also has a nice big sloted/drilled brake package. His car cost him around $52,000. Thats a little to expensive for my taste. I would've gotten a Z06 with that kinda money. But you dont see too many of those on road.
PhantomTA 11-28-2002, 01:24 PM I guess if people think they are collectors.. cause it sure isnt worth the performance you get for the money..
usually less than 1000.00 worth of mods their
NC Dude 11-28-2002, 11:04 PM Correction there 35thanniv.SS............
All the Intimidators are 01 model year except for a 00 Prototype which Dale Jr. owns. All of them are black, just like Earnhardt's race cars.
I'd like to see the dyno numbers on one with about 8K miles on it.
NC Dude 11-29-2002, 07:23 PM Any other input on this?
Thanks for knowledgable replys.
Geeterman 11-29-2002, 09:31 PM It is very easy to get an ls1 up to 381 hp. My car has a lid, ported maf, catback exhaust and dynoed 330 rwhp in an auto. That's about 402 flywheel hp. Like it was said previous, the stock LS1 has much more hp than what they are rated at, I'd say more around 350-360 hp stock.
chevy qc 11-30-2002, 04:57 PM that's my problem with it. are you willing to pay the extra for an estimated hp? dyno at the rear wheels is not a flywheel number. estimating is for online racing. when they have proof that it's that much then i'll believe them. let me tell ya, i'd put a 385 hp z06 or 390hp cobra against their estimated 381 hp camaro anyday and i'm certaily more camaro fan than any others. anyone that has driven a berger camaro can verify that estiamted hp isn't where it's at.

Are you kidding??????
Desolate_Flux 11-30-2002, 10:39 PM I should have phrased it...
Stock LS1 346ci engines going that high.
I've seen 383's and supercharged and such ones...
But not one with just headers, exhaust, intake, basics.
01SunsetOrangeSS 11-30-2002, 11:54 PM Just because you haven't seen a basically stock LS1 pull 315RWHP doesn't mean it doesn't happen all the time. My 01' SS with only 400mi on it pulled 315.4 RWHP bone stock. With mods listed in signature it pulled 356 RWHP = 438 hp at the crank. Believe it, I have seen at least a dozen dyno runs of LS1's that pulled 325-335RWHP with lids and exhaust only. :D
Desolate_Flux 12-01-2002, 06:17 AM I also meant 381 at the wheels, I didnt know they were lame enough to tell you any other rating =)
PhantomTA 12-01-2002, 07:22 AM my 346 makes over 380 at the tire :)
Lastt year at Camaro Superfest, a Berger 380hp car dynoed and everyone ooooh and ahhhhhed over it because it made 320ish rwhp. Then a guy i know made just under 380. The guy was pretty bummed.. He packed it up and left soon after..
