how much nitrous is too much....

How much nitrous is too much on a stock bottom end on an LT-1. I want to get a 75 shot, is that safe to run on my stock 70,000 mile LT-1? If so, can someone reccomend a kit that you have used and were happy with??

Your engine should handle a 75 shot without a problem, alot of people safely jet their kits to a 100 shot and once again, have no problems. The main thing to take into consideration is running all of the "safety gear" such as a window switch, one-step colder copper conductor plugs, fuel pressure safety switch ect. As for the kit itself, there are several good ones on the market to choose from. You might want to post something like this in the "Nitrous Oxide" forum and look around some of the posts on there. Also, check out the two nitrous supporting vendors on here, www.nitrousoutlet.com and www.harrisspeedworks.com They both are great companies to deal with and go out of their way to answer questions for board members.

Well I'll just tell you, Ive seen them take some abuse. A friend somehow forgot to reinstall the jets in his kit before he made a pass. Still alive to this day.

with a 150 shot i would be more worried about the tranny...

75 wet is cake for the bottom... unless your too lean then i would think it would be rough...

Now for the question, if you want the honest to God answer to that question.. here it is.. None NADA ZERO ZILCH.. NOT A DROP.. Your car was not engineered to do anything but what it was designed to do in stock form.. I say this cause I don't want some kid with a V6 to put a 200 shot on it.. blow it up and blame me..

Now this question has many variables.. and you will hear everything from a 75 shot on stock fuel to 150 to 200 on bolt on only motors.. the amount of nitrous the stock LS1 can handle is really not your question.. what you want to know is the potential power output to the wheels of your motor reliably and consistently..

In my hoest opinion you can push a stock bottom end LS1 to the 600RWHP area WITH A SAFE TUNE for a long time.. now what is a safe tune??

My personal definition of a safe tune is one conservative on timing and a safe A/F.. RICHER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER.. you can get to a point of cylinder wash down and begin lifting ringlands blah blah.. this is not something you want done by joe shmoe with HP tuners.. this is going to have to be done by a reputable pro on a dyno.. its prob not going to be cheap and its probably going to take a while..

Now the nitrous horror stories.. every one on here has heard the stories and has that one friend who says nitrous is so bad.. The best I can tell this basically stems from some time ago.. LONG before the technology of today.. with what these guys like Ricky and them know about atomization and fuel puddling you guys are seeing the safest and most potent nitrous kits ever to hit the market.. the days of the Blown off manifolds and such, while still happening, are not nearly as common..

Now what you all wanted to know.. what does it take to push the stock LS1 and how far will it go..

I like to go from personal experience.. not what I have heard.. in order to spray a 200+ shot into your car make sure you have plenty of fuel.. a a/f in the 11's is what i prefer.. some say thats rich.. but I also like to give my car a 200 hit on pump gas from time to time.. a conservative timing setting of 24-26* is ideal in my eyes.. and ALL the proper supporting equipment.. Fuel pressure safety switch.. Window switch.. race gas in HIGH HP applications any thing you can do.. you can not be to safe..

Guys the stock bottom end is alot tougher than most make it out to be.. and if you use your spray wisely and conservatively your LS1 will take a 200+ shot for a long time to come.. make sure your tune is spot on.. make sure you have your supporting equipment in place..

and enjoy handing those FI guys, like CAT3 wants to be, there asses when they least expect it..

Their is no "set in stone" limits to what the bottom end can handle.
I have personnaly sprayed a H/C stock bottom end with a 150 shot. Never dyno'd the car on the juice but it made 385rwhp NA. I just took my time monitered the A/F by the spark plugs. Can every LT1 do this...no.

The problems most people have with nitrous is they get greedy, without taking the neccassary precautions...I.E. start with 50 shot, every thing is good, bump to 100...wow its even better, switch 2 150....Now we're really moving.....Lets do 200....?????????.

125 is the most ill spray until i built the motor a bit. Getting the trans to stay together last year was my main problem. Me and my tranny shop tried 3 or 4 different combos before i got one that held.

Im spraying 125 with all the safety equipment and that worked fine last year. My fuel pressure started to drop towards the end of last year so i bought a new ractronix pump today actually and have gauges waiting to go in as well to further help me monitor it this year.

Yea, 60ft killed me. I wasnt hooking up all day so i babied it a bit off the line

I sprayed a 150-shot on a 120K-mile stock bottom end with no problems at all. That was enough to push this 4100 lb. barge to 12.7s. I was running an Accel ignition box with window switch and retarding timing 6 degrees on the spray.

i think on a 150 your living on borrowed time. personally i would be confortable spraying 125 or 100. i like to stay on the safe side tho!

I want to hook up my nitrous. How much should I expect to pay for the full install (with all the safety mods too) ?!

Do you need to tune the ecu or will the lt1 zex setup that came with the "brain box" be enough? Its a 125 dry shot.

N20 refills will run anywhere from $3.00 to $6.00 per pound.

Shops around me are charging 5.00$ ish. Some individuals refill and charge less than this.
