rusty cam....worth saving

so i have an old cam sitting around.

pulled it out and noticed a little bit of surface rust on the bearing surfaces and the lifter lobes.

think its worth trying to clean up?? or is it THAT important to have a polished surface.

i really don't think it's bad...maybe some 2000 grit sandpaper may clean it up.

it wouldn't be worht much clean...think i could polish it up enough to sell?

It is THAT important to have polished surfaces at the very minimum on the actual bering surfaces. On flat tappet cams, if you don't follow proper break in procedures you can round a lobe. Also if you pull your lifter and put them on different lobes you can round one. I realize thisis a roller cam, but your bearing surfaces aren't roller.

IMO, stock cams are a dime a dozen. You'd be lucky to get $20 out of it. The cam is hollow so just turn it into a lamp. If you need a stocker, then get a cheap used one w/out the rust.

NO i wouldnt reuse it or try an clean it up.

Put it on ebay anyways, someone will buy it for their junkyard build. Just make sure to note that there's some surface rust on it that "may" clean up. People will buy anything on there, and as long as you're being up front and honest, who cares?

State on Ebay that the rust is "rare" and that it once whispered to you the date of the apocalypse.
