My stereo dreams for this car are starting to fall into place. I'm getting 4 brand new 6.5 Infinity speakers. (ebay @ $30 a set!!) My buddy is trading me one of my amps for his 800x4 Kenwood! I can finally run an amp to all 4 of my speakers! 'Bout friggin time!
anyway, can I wire the capacitor before the distribution block? 1.5 farad I think I'll need. 800w + 500W = 1300... 1.5f should be fine.. I have a .5 farad cap laying around.
Also, 4ga wire to dist block ok?

hey, nice set up, i have full eclipse 12" 4200's(x2) each with there own amp and 4 eclipse speakers amped as well, its gonna sound crazy but i ran 0 guage to the dist block, then 2 guage to the cap then 2 gauge to each amp, i mounted amp across from spare tire (opposite side ) mines a 5 farad, but the cap stays hidden bc of the rear sub box, i had stock bose so i can check it then by taking off the rear speaker vent. ne?s bout wiring let me kno i work 4 circuit city.

Would it be ok to mount the cap inline RIGHT before the dist block? too much for the block? or should I just buy a 1f cap to use for the 800w amp? and use my .5f I have laying around for the 500w amp for the subs. I wonder if it's still good.
I got outbid for those ebay Infinity 6.5s yesterday. There's more... I waited till the last 30 seconds to reenter a bid. Then I got out bid, so in the scramble I lost it by about 1 or 2 seconds!..
That pissed me off. I REALLLLLY need new speakers, one of my fronts is shot, my backs were shot, so I yanked the backs out. So all I have is one working front speaker, one that sounds like crap and two subs that are selective on when they want to come on (bad RCA cables)... I'm doing a COMPLETE stereo revamping! I can't wait!

Why run a cap...you wont need one...it will in no way benefit you to run it.

I dont think a cap is needed at all. I would run 0 gauge to the distro block. In my buddies TA hes runnin 100rmsX4 to his speakers, and 1200rms into the sub. We had minimal dimming at full tilt, upgraded the big3 and presto no dimming

I've run a cap before and I like the response. It takes the punch from the battery. I'm doing a cap on this setup. I also don't want to kill my alt. Granted I do have a 800amp Optima battery.

You don't need cap unless you have a huge SUB amp and too small power wires on most setups. Hell, JL 500/1 and 300/4 at full blast are completely fine with 4 gauge and Red Top. Check the RMS specs for this 800x4 Kenwood, but I would be surprised if it can give more then 50RMS to each speaker, unless it is 4 feet long and 20 pounds ;)

Personally I think a cap is a waste of time and money. But if you absolutely have to have it in your setup the best place for it is as close to the subwoofer amp as you can get it. The sub amp and it's high current demands are what place the biggest load on your car's electrical system. Placing the cap near the sub amp is where it will do the most good.
