Carbon Fiber NOS bottle
Carbon Fiber NOS bottle
Well we just acuired a nice Carbon Fiber nitrous bottle and have one question, how do you heat it up? with the regular 10lbs bottles we just use a torch. Is this safe on a carbon fiber bottle? Or should we just throw it in the bath tub!!!
if you can afford a cf bottle you can afford a bottle heater...you say it doesnt work...turn it on 30 min before you use it..my friend has a bottle heater and it works great..along with a bottle blanket.
A bottle heater is the only way to heat a carbon fiber bottle. I personally have the standard NX bottle and just turn my heater as soon as I get the car off the trailer so that it is nice and toasty by the time I get into the staging lanes.
You can't use a torch on any bottle. If you get any part of the bottle above about 350 degrees it can weaken the bottle enough to cause it to fail. And yes plenty of people in various racing classes use bottle heater granted the majority I would say are 110 heaters but heaters none the less. The point about real racers not using a carbon fiber bottle is true. The carbon fiber bottles do not take to heating very well or maintaining heat which leads to consistency issues. You could try a bottle spa if you are really against heaters.
Like SRSNOW just said. Using a torch is very dangerous. The bottles are casted to explode a certain way in the event the blow off valve failed. By heating the bottle with a torch you take a huge chance of changing the molicule make up of the bottle. By doing this if the bottle explodes it will not mushroom out like designed It will become shrapnel.
I tried running carbon fiber bottles in my car. Yes they look awesome and are light weight but they will not retain heat like the aluminum bottles.
860 performance resently released a bottle hot box that is water controlled. This unit is awesome for keeping the bottles at the correct pressure while staying in the pits. Cars street/strip with alternators do not have any problems using bottle heaters. Its the guys with out alternators that do. They need as less quipment as possible robbing amps from the battery.
