"Eagle" 383 Rotating Assembly question.

This post a few weeks back will mention what my intentions are:http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1595844.

Since that post I have purchased the TPIS Miniram with fuel rails, and a set of AFR 195cc Eliminators. The next thing is to pick out a 1 piece real main seal rotating assembly.

http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...092&CtgID=9038 This is the assembly I have narrowed it down to. I was curious if there are any members that are currently running this assembly. It is my understanding that it needs to be internally balanced, and for the cost of around $100 you might as well let the place your buying it from balance the crank/rods/pistons.

You can press on the link above if you wish for all the information and price. Below is what I copyed and pasted.

"ESP" Full competition rotating assemblies are the perfect choice for racers desiring a bullet proof bottom end peformance engine.

New Eagle 4340 forged steel crankshaft ( late Style 1 piece rear main seal 87-99 blocks).
New Eagle "ESP" 3-D H-Beam connecting rods ( Bushed Fit Pins ).
New SRP forged high performance aluminum pistons, with pins and locks .
Premium Plasma moly performance piston ring set.
Clevite 77 high performance H series performance rod and main bearing set.
Kit must be balanced if not done by CNC-Motorsports.

The heads I have chosen from AFR are 65cc combustion chamber. I am thinking of dropping the piston in the hole approx. 0.010 and with a head gasket of .039 would give me a CR of around 10.7, and a squish of .049.

Just curious as to what you guys think. I am able to get this assembly for $1353. And the store mentioned to me that a standard crank balance, like what CNC and Eagle do are $100. If I want a race balance with rods and pistons matched as well it's $150.

Anyone running that assembly? What do you guys think I know Eagle is not the "best", but my budget does not allow a $2500 rotating assembly.

That is what I am running now. I can't remember the exact price I paid for balancing, it was around $250 for mine. My kit price was about $300 higher that that one, but this was in 2004 that I got mine. Runs good. I wished I had gone with more compression though, I picked the -16cc pistons instead of the -5cc srp's. If you are running n/a, then go with the -5cc's for more compression.

i was thinking of going with a 383 kit like that, infact probably the same one. not to hijack threads, but generally what does it cost (excluding the kit) to have the engine rebuitla dn installed?

That sounds like a fine, fine package idea. I have that one, or it's equivilant anyway. I bought my parts in 2000 and it was like, $1700. So prices have dropped since then. They didnt make a kit back then so I ended up buying Lunati forged pistons. My compressiion ratio is 10.6:1, and it is just great for 92 octane gas.

You'll be fine with the Eagle stuff, definately have it balanced as precisely as possible. It's wierd that they have a half assed balancing program at a reduced cost. If you're not doing a power adder, I think you could do a Scat bottom end for much less. Scatt 9000 crank, Scat 7/16" rod bolt I beam rods, piston of your choise, etc. Flatlanderracing.com is what I normally check for pricing on stuff like this. It could actually come in 50% cheaper than an overkill eagle 4340 assembly.

I did the Eagle 4340 stuff and a Diamond piston but it's for a mild nitrous setup and should be reliable well past 700-800hp. If you can save on the bottom end, you casn always put the rest towards a better header/exhaust and intake mods that you may need. Goodluck!

Eagle stuff is a little heavy, but nice and strong. My 355 has those rods and pistons, and it's bulletproof.I wouldn't skimp on balancing if I were you.
Cheers

Questions: what if a piston is replaced, which type of balance would require rebalancing the entire kit? Is that what you want?

hi. just curious what mods do you have in regards to the 388 stroker? and what power are you making?
