To the Engineers currently working on the Camaro - One Simple Request

Right now I’m sure each little detail is being reviewed and perfected as GM gets ready to bring this icon back to life. And I hope each of the engineers are excited as I am for this project to be a success.

Now this isn’t some plead to stuff in a 500 hp engine or to make the Z28 the top model.

I also realize that such things as the interior are becoming set in stone already.

But please………PLEASE!

LET A 6’6” MAN BE ABLE TO FIT IN THIS CAR!!!!!!

If you can design the electric seat to adjust just 1 inch more down and 1 inch farther back please do it.

This is my only real request for the 5th gen and will be a deal killer for me.

With the slung back lay down design of the 4th gen I owned I was able to comfortably take road trips for hours.

I know this was a consideration for the C5 after reading All Corvettes are Red.

Please make a consideration for the 5th gen, I know I’m not the only tall guy waiting to get in this car.

Don't forget about short people either! My wife is 5'4" and can barely get the clutch pedal to the floor in my Z28 with the seat all the way forward.

Interesting request... and I'm hoping it won't be a worry!
I remember meeting Jim McIlvaine at Bowling Green in 2002, during my 1st trip to the annual F-body event there. At the time, Jim was an editor at GMHTP and had just retired from the NJ Nets of the NBA. We were having a conversation just prior to the start of the autoX event and I asked what prompted him to buy his 35th Anniversary SS convertible... to which he responded, "I didn't fit in a 'Vette."
Jim is over 7' tall and maintained that he was perfectly comfortable in the SS!
I'm 6'1" and he dwarfs me!http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/512000-512999/512022_80_full.jpg
Here's hoping GM doesn't cut down too much on the front seat legroom!

Best regardSS,

Elie

High Tower was his nickname. The characters name was Eugene Tackleberry.

your wrong. High Tower was a tall black man who was a florist before he became a police academy trainee.

Tackleberry was the one who was gun crazy, and was white, and was after the chick / Instructor with the big guns herself.

obviously 2 different characters.

With the way that most cars are being designed with modern crash standards in mind, I doubt fitting in a 6'6" person or a 5'3" person will be a problem.

I believe the standard distance for optimal seating position for the driver is at least 10" between the air bag cover and chest, with the air bag pointed at the chest. If they follow this rule, this should give taller guys enough leg room to let out the clutch w/o hitting the steering wheel with the knee, and short people an ability to reach the pedals without hugging the airbag. This can be accomplished with a height adjustable seat, longer seat tracks, and a tilt/telescope wheel and adjustable pedals, or certain combinations thereof.

VW has done a great job with the GTI...I can fit comfortably at 6'3" (and safely) and my sister, who is rather short, can also fit very comfortably and safely as well.

Now if GM will just include adjustable head restraints in the new Camaro... The seats in my Camaros have always scared me -- no whiplash protection, and for a taller guy like me, that probably means spinal injuries in a rear impact :(

Well cars are mainly designed around (in crash test terms) the 50th percentile male - 5'9" 170lbs. That's me exactly so I should be good to go. :p
