My Sister........

Ok, my sister is one of those girls who is like "my boyfriend drives a really nice car". I ask "what kind of car is it?" She says "a red one".

Ok, she has said this about some real POSs.

Anyway, she has just graduated school and is making very good money with very little student loans to pay and excellent credit. She and I were talking about what kind of car to get and she says "I just want something cheap for now until the Camaro comes out".

I had no idea my sister even knew what the camaro was.

To the guys at GM, you have hit the nail on the head. Some might say the styling was a bit too this or that. However if a total non-car person says they can't wait to get their new Camaro, you have done something, scratch that, everything right.

Great job, this was the ultimate proof for me that the Camaro will be way more mainstream than we all hoped for.

At the time I posted this the title "My sister...." was right above "Thoughts on weight reduction".

Thanks for the amusement 5thGen. However, the fact that a total non-car person both knows about and is waiting for the new car is a great sign.

My MOM said that the other day too, she was like..."I might have to get me one of those Camaro's to drive on the weekend, do they make convertible ones".....we're talking about someone who drives a $90,000 BMW 750i.

GM is definetley doing good

The word is definitely getting out. Its encouraging to see that someone who knows little or nothing about the Camaro is eagerly anticipating its arrival to dealer showrooms.

.....oh, sorry ... this isn't the Lounge ;). Nevermind!! :D

Seriously though, that's perfect proof right there that the "general public" are aware of the car, and that it is APPEALING to them :thumb:.

Good job, GM! :cz28:

thanks guys, you see exactly what I am saying.

I have heard a lot of rants about the styling. Obviously the peeps at the car mags need to put down the microscopes and look at the whole picture. If my sister gets it and they don't there is a problem.

Pete, ummmm no.

I am sorry if this is way off topic, or if I completely derail this thread, I just didn't want to start a whole new thread. I have exhausted all of the Camaro internet resources I could find, so I decided to start scrounging around the Mustang fors to see if they were talking at all about the competition. Interestingly enough there is a lot of deflated speculation going around those boards.

I only bring this up in this thread because their general perception, at least on the boards I was looking through, was that the Camaro would be short lived again and not sell.... I think they are rather threatened to be honest.

My favorite comment was a guy saying he had heard that the V-8 would put out about 340 HP and weigh around 3800 lbs. Quite funny...

I had the concept Camaro poster up at my cube for several months last year. And let me say several co-workers thought the car looked great. Despite the word CAMARO on the poster many asked what it was but once they were told they didn't forget and have since been asking when its coming out and how much.

One thing they didn't do was add their spare change to my Camaro tip jar below the poster....

oh well GM has done well on this one.

Of course I'm being optimistic (as we all are, I'm sure) but I really do believe the car is going to sell well . Will it ever surpass Mustang? I guess time will tell. If we could at least come close to their sales #'s, I think I (and GM) would be happy. But I sure as hell hope the car's life isn't short-lived again. I really don't think so, though. I believe if GM (management) had have stayed behind the Camaro the whole time, it never would have left in the first place. They're behind it now, and I think it's here to stay.

Uh, yeah  ..... considering the OLD Camaro's V8 put out ~345 - 350 HP ;). If it puts anything less than ~340 HP to the WHEELS I'll be shocked!! :D :p

The weight? Well, let's just 'weight' and see ;).

thats good to hear. Ive noticed non car folks asking about the camaro as well. I also agree, perhaps the lessons learned from gen4 will help us keep the nextgen(s) longer, instead of the short lived life of gen4. I think overall though, if gm builds a jam up car, from the ground, we shouldnt have too many problems. I look forward to her coming out, but I dont think ill have the $ to buy another one. Besides, I owe my wife a tahoe before I can buy my 5th camaro.

Dude, you owe yourself a 5th-gen Camaro . Your wife can ride shot-gun. That's better than a Tahoe ;).

hehe.. i know i know.. but the last 3 camaros were on "credit" with her. So technically i can start having kids, or a tahoe, but I think i'll still end up oweing her a tahoe in the end..s ooo.. im stuck with the 4 camaros i have now, unless i hit the lottery or something.

We were having arguments over the car, and although I won and we're getting one it wasn't pleasant. Then I went to WalMart and bought the Dub City concept in red. I whipped it out of the box and had it sitting on the table when she got home.
her: "That's cool looking. What is it?"
me: "That's the 2010 Camaro we've been arguing over."
her: "Oh... well, that thing is sexy. Why didn't you just show me that first? Of course we can get one."
me: "....."
True story. Now we're both happy. I don't know what she expected, but at soon as she saw the car (even in it's sh1ttee little toy form) for real, she's totally down.

Which is cool, 'cause our couch ain't all that comfortable.

I did have to promise a minivan to replace the Suburban though.

Yeah, I've got to agree here... my wife, who usually gives me a hard time (in jest) about my f-bodies, saw the vert on TV and said "that is really sharp".

To me, that is all the proof I need to know the new Camaro will be a big hit!

BTW-She also asked me what color I would like to get? ;)

That is funny. My wife said I can get it, but she gets to pick the color. We will see how that goes.

My lady just assumes I'm getting the new 'maro when it comes out - it wasn't even an issue. It helps that she likes how it looks as well.

My girlfriend has no say in my cars.

She drives a Neon....please. I would never let her or any woman influence my car buying decisions.

All you guys with that need mandatory wife approval. Glad I'm single. Hopefully if I ever get married, I can just get what I want.

I think you're generalizing a little too much here. I can and do get whatever I want, but the simple fact is my wife handles the bills and taking on a car payment is a little too big of an expense to just "do" without talking to her. And in my case, my wife is a whole lot more diligent when it comes to money than I ever was when I was single - so it just makes sense.

That said, it helps to have a significant other who "gets" these cars. My wife loved my WS6 from the day I got it (we weren't even married then) - she even made herself late for work to find it for me! She hates that my car's in the shop and almost cried when she saw it there. And my wife can't wait until her 350z gets it's "garage buddy" back. :) Best of all, she's as excited about the new Camaro as I am - that makes it WAY more fun that just being a single guy in lust.

That's a Hard A. May-Row

lol - for some reason I thought it was faster to type it that way, although I never actually use it in conversation, nor did I think to realize it was only one less keystroke. Now it's much more since I've got somebody jumping all over my back the second I try to save my hands from carpel tunnel.

Sheesh.

But 'marrow' is the correct way to say it. Kuh-Marrow

Though I do hear a number of people say Kuh-Maero. It always annoys me. :)
