need help after header install

i decided to install my headers on my own with the help of my old man. i read tons of post on how to do the swap, with the help of you all everything went fine until the end. everything is installed now except the battery.

when i went to hook up the battery the car started wanting to ignite without even having the keys in the ignition switch. it also sparked like crazy, i have no idea what this is, is there any routine i have to do when connecting the starter back on. it seems to me that the starter will be the issue. also when i was reading the manual to try and find an answer it mentioned something about a lockswitch on the starter or something like that.

the only things i disconnected where:
the spark plugs and wires (i numbered them all to not lose track of them)
the alternator and the plug behind it
the coolant sensor on the driver side of the block
the O2 sensors (i used the wires provided by pacesetter to make them longer, would that cause a problem?)
the starter
and the little pipe that connects from the back of the intake to the header

any suggestions on fixing the problem are welcome
thanks to everyone in advance
michael

You mean there were sparks jumping between the cable and the battery when you were trying to bolt on the last cable, right? ;) Just work through it ... once you get the bolt started into the battery, that'll stop. I think it's just because there are a few constant draws on the system even when the car is shut-off (computer mostly, I think). The couple times I've had my battery disconnected, it always sparks a little bit when re-connecting the cables.

no hes saying the starter engaged, which most likely means he has the purple wire on the wrong post. that wire should be on the outside small post
