savage99ss 02-05-2007, 09:22 AM One thing I miss that is not on the new Camaro or any production cars (now days), is the hidden gas door behind a swivel licence plate. I used to love that on old cars, bc it enables the body of the car to show off its lines without a placement of a gas door.
Your thoughts?
CrimsonNJ 02-05-2007, 02:09 PM I thought auto makers didn't care to put the gas intake there because of rear end collisions.
SS 396 02-06-2007, 04:16 PM I think the gas door on the 5th gen looks pretty good. It doesn't ruin the lines on this particular car.
JCS30TH 02-07-2007, 12:10 PM I thought auto makers didn't care to put the gas intake there because of rear end collisions.
I am sure the safety nazi's had something to do with it.
JakeRobb 02-08-2007, 07:59 AM My Grand National has the gas filler cap behind the license plate. Man, is that ever a pain in the ass!

That was always one of my favorite things on the old school cars for some reason. But yeah, I'm sure the increasingly stringent safety regulations put a stop to that one.
Z28Wilson 02-08-2007, 08:55 PM I miss the t-tops.
AdioSS 02-08-2007, 09:10 PM my 96 imp has the gas behind the rear plate as well. I like the hidden part about it and the fact that I can pull up to a pump from either side. I have installed a part from White painted Caprices that is basically a cheap rubber flap that goes in between the plate and the braket that keeps fuel from getting on the bumper.
97z28/m6 02-09-2007, 01:00 PM i'll miss the hatch.
camarolvr69 02-09-2007, 06:19 PM cant wait for a real trunk...water gets in the vanes on either side and back of hatch when i wash it
EllwynX 02-09-2007, 08:30 PM i'll miss the hatch.
I'd much rather have a hatchstyle trunk also. Why CAN'T the 5th Gen be a hatch and still keep the appearance of a normal trunk? Isn't the Scion tC a hatch? It certainly doesn't look like one. Why can't they do something similar with the Camaro?
But I agree the 4th Gen's hatch wasn't very well thought out where water runoff was concerned.
But if that's the biggest complaint, that's pretty minor imo.
OutsiderIROC-Z 02-11-2007, 12:39 AM I miss the t-tops.
Me too....
EllwynX 02-11-2007, 03:34 PM Me too....
Ok, ok, I'll admit it. Only 2 things I'll 'miss' in the new Camaro.
TTops and Hatch Trunk. (I can't ever settle on just one thing in my life. Gotta have options.)
NikkiLynn 02-11-2007, 11:03 PM I miss the t-tops.
Yup

Agreed.
GM OSHAWA 04-20-2007, 08:50 PM How dissapointed well you guys be if the gas filll location gets moved to the more standard location that GM uses? ????????? Thats All I'am saying on this subject.
Ron78Z&01SS 04-21-2007, 01:54 AM Things have been a little slow lately.

Sounds like an interesting poll if someone wanted to start one. :)
GM OSHAWA................man I wish you could tell us what all you know.

I like the concepts location, but moving it won't stop me from buying one.
shock6906 04-21-2007, 10:58 PM I'm gonna miss reaching across 6 feet of dashboard to clean the windshield. I was just getting used to that...:p
Bayer-Z28 04-22-2007, 01:34 AM I think the fuel door is actually a good idea... ...Except for a rear collision possibility. = Possibility of spilled fuel. I'd rather spill fuel on the back of the license plate than on the paint.

I spill gas on my GN every time I fill it up. I swear, there's no clean way to do it. It sucks.
It's also a pain to hold the plate down while you fill up. You can't just put the nozzle in and let it fill... you have to hold the damn thing the whole time.
wildpaws 04-22-2007, 09:22 PM What I'll miss on the 2009 Camaro will be the $3,600 MSRP that was on my 69 Z/28 when I bought it new! <VBG>
Clyde
Demosthenes 05-12-2007, 03:02 PM For the gas tank, I like the old 1969 Dodge(I know, I know) Charger location, It reminds me of a race car.
For the T-Tops, I would love to see those also, but didn't they leak, and cause stress on the frame? I don't know...I do know they leak though!
I'm not concerned with the trunk, although a hatch trunk is a nice thing to have.

a guy on turbobuick.com that goes by the name of red regal t can help you out. he sells stay down license plate brackets, they work beautifully.

oops, got mixed up last night when posting this. Wrong thread. Sorry!
LS1Kid717 07-22-2007, 02:37 AM i always thought the gas behind the licenseplate was cool as hell

And you'll continue to feel that way until you own a car with that setup. It sucks royal ass.
jg95z28 07-22-2007, 04:49 PM And you'll continue to feel that way until you own a car with that setup. It sucks royal ass.Ditto. Even worse were the 67-68s with the gas filler above the rear bumper. Do you know how many times I've spilled gas on the paint and on the bumper? EVERY TIME I FILL 'ER UP! :irk:
TEG99SS 08-20-2007, 09:01 PM Talking about things we miss. . . I miss chrome!! none of these new cars have a shred of chrome on them anymore!

Yeah, chrome bumpers have seen their time, theyre beautiful but are very heavy and also are dangerous during an accident, but have sherman-tank durable unlike the bs 5mph bumpers that are filled with plastic and foam.
Would you like to see chrome trim and such? or were you talking about bumpers? Personally I'm a fan of "body match" paint scheme, but it would be nice to maybe opt for a chrome trim package if they made it available.

Use the gas cap as a wedge in the hinge to brace the plate down. No worries. ;)

Yeah, I know that trick. It only helps a little. It's still 100x more frustrating than a regular fuel door.

Cool. Just trying to help. I like them myself.
FS3800 08-24-2007, 05:05 PM i miss... i miss.. um.... i miss... hmmm... i guess i'll miss having t-tops but i'm not upset that they probably won't be available on the new car..
i won't miss the hatch for a second..

They have a kit out for the mustangs, seen here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06-07-Ford-Mustang-V6-GT-Base-Chrome-Bumper-Trim-Kit_W0QQitemZ330096490786QQcmdZViewItem). Doesn't look too bad in person, kinda nice on a pony package. Maybe they'll come up with something similar for the camaro
There wasn't t-tops on the 1st gen Camaro, so why would there be t-tops on the 5th gen since it is a retro version of the 1st gen? It would look pretty stupid and out of place.

There are lots of things that will be on the 5th Gen that weren't on the 1st. Should they all be removed for the sake of being a tad 'retro'?
It's a Modern Retro Inspired Camaro. Not a full-on retro copy (see the Challenger if that's what you want).

I'm not saying it should be an exact copy of the 1st gen. I'm not asking for a TH350 tranny or a 4 barrel carb, but the looks are retro and mixing t-tops with a retro version of the 1st gen would look plain wrong. Now a removeable targa top that is body color would be ok. Glass tops with a "T" in the middle is not.
SiggyZ 11-09-2007, 02:53 PM Safety concerns played a factor, I'm sure.
