Whitey13 01-28-2007, 03:04 AM So next Sunday I'm getting my 1994 Camaro Z28 and the first modification I want to do is the exhaust.
This is my plan: True 3" duals with no cats into 40 Series Flowmasters.
Whaddya think performance wise and sound wise?
Thanks fellow enthusiasts!
ABA383 01-28-2007, 08:02 AM I have 3" TDs with an X, but used Edelbrock SDT 304 series...Very good flow and nice sound...Not too loud, but roar at WOT, plus they are only 3 5/8" thich which is a huge plus...

mdacton 01-28-2007, 08:57 AM I also have the edelbrock mufflers....they are the thinest i found.
If you can get the flowmasters to work go for it.....should sound good
Whitey13 01-28-2007, 11:16 AM Thanks guys, that's what I wanted o hear. My goal is to set off some car alarms:D
2000GTP 01-28-2007, 01:23 PM True duals are a great idea. I would also consider doing headers as the same time as well for maximum flow and gains.
Whitey13 01-28-2007, 09:53 PM Indeed. Money is a little short right now since I just bought the car but I was looking at some full length pacesetters for $268. Man that would sound great.
teke184 01-29-2007, 07:52 AM on a stock car the gains will be minimal over a good catback. just not enough demand for all that flow.
unless you plan to make the car a 500rwhp monster some day...i would suggest a 2.5" setup. little cheaper, lighter, and will allow better clearance.
since its still stock...you could easily get away with some bullets. they'll tuck up nicer and still sound great

Just be advised that those are non-coated headers. If you do get them, I would paint them with a quality header paint before installing.

Interesting...but yes, I do have plans. Well, someday anyway :D I think the exhaust will be a good start.

Indeed. Thanks for the heads up.
teke184 01-30-2007, 07:32 AM just realize that 2.5" pipes will still support ALOT of hp...and will probably give you less headaches in the long run on clearance

Yeah, you're right. But there is a guy I know with a 95 z28 with 4" td's. No cats or mufflers, straight through. I should get a pic for you guys to see. There is a lot, and I mean A LOT of pinching and tucking going on. He said he has 4 inches of clearance at the lowest part of the system. Don't know how he pulled that one off. He's got it dynoed in at 710 horse and 785 ft lbs of torque. You'd think he has some sort of backpressure issue even with that power...
teke184 01-31-2007, 07:38 AM he must have custom headers...cause none that i know of have collectors bigger than 3"
so a 4" pipe would have minimal gains...
Whitey13 01-31-2007, 06:47 PM You know something mean is coming when you hear that thing.
Whitey13 01-31-2007, 07:00 PM On a side note, if I went with 2.5" instead of 3", how will it sound differently if at all?
mdacton 01-31-2007, 07:06 PM If you don't have headers then just save your money and do the project once.
Whitey13 01-31-2007, 07:12 PM I know, I should. But I gotta make my presence known ;)

that guy is a moron, a single 4 inch pipe flows like 660 hp now he has way too much money in his exhaust and no ground clearance.
2 1/2 is the way to go.
A 2.75” (stock) single system is good for a 310hp engine with zero loss…
A 3” Single system is good for a 370hp engine with zero loss…
A 3.5” Single system is good for a 503hp engine with zero loss…
A 4” Single system is good for a 657hp engine with zero loss…
A 2.25” dual system is good for a 457hp engine with zero loss…
A 2.5” dual system is good for a 513hp engine with zero loss…
A 3” dual system is good for a 812hp engine with zero loss…
teke184 02-01-2007, 07:44 AM not that i dissagree...
but i have to wonder....how exactly are those seemingly exact hp figures determined??
