well actually the 87 and up are diff.

mostly its just updated for strength. I dont remember the exact diff.s, but things like more pump veins, hardened this, thicker that, you get the idea.

well most shops i've looked into say they use only the 88+ up 700r-4 in their builds; just curious as to why this is since it's alot more than 1 shop??

Earlier years of the 700R4 were junk and had certain hard parts that were weak. They did some major updates in 88.

hard parts? when you do a rebuild wouldn't these be fixed anyway?? isn't it the casing that stays original and all the internal parts are replaced or no?

well calling them junk is an OVERSTATEMENT. the one in my car certainly isnt junk. actulally, the trans in either of my cars.

the newer ones are better, but not always available and usually more exp. because of it.

all the parts inside are not changed. usualy just the seals, clutches, and bands. then what ever upgrades you make. If you have an old one dont worry about it. use it. but if you have a choice, then use the newer one.
