94Hawk213 01-26-2007, 06:45 PM Hey, I just put 6.5" Polk DB6500s in my front door panels and ran them from an MTX TC2002 amp. Now, I want to replace the rear seat and trunk speakers, but don't know what size they are. My '94 Firebird has the 10-speaker setup. Do y'all have any suggestions as to the sizes of those speakers? I could only find varying answers in the old posts. Thanks!
fredmr39 01-26-2007, 10:49 PM 6.5" S (6.5" or 6.75" will work usually) in the rear sails
4" for the hatch
EDIT: I see you have a Firebird......the hatch speakers in your car are components actually...so replacing them with full range coaxials would require modification... I would just leave them as is stock until they crap out...then disconnect them and leave it that way....or ditch them now.

What are you putting in the rear sails? Those are mid-bass subs, as you know... and you would probably want DVC 4 ohm replacements since you have DVC 4 ohms there in the first place...
94Hawk213 01-27-2007, 12:34 AM So, I can just replace the sail panel speakers with 6.5" or 6.75" coaxials? Do you have any recommendations? I'm not sure I understand what you're saying with the hatch speakers. Are they 4" woofer/1" tweeter components? Can you even get aftermarkets for those?
As far as the sound goes, I have no idea what I'm doing. I was just matching what was put in the stock system (i.e., putting components up front, etc.). What would you recommend I put in the hatch? I would like to do little or no modification as I like to keep it looking as stock as possible (though sounding sweet is fine:D)
fredmr39 01-27-2007, 02:19 PM I would recommend nothing in the hatch...or just keep the stockers. Nothing else.
For the rear sails it depends what you want there... I would go either midbass or midrange at most...but realize you are going to have to amp them separately since the signal there is low pass filtered. If you don't plan on adding a sub later, I would definitely find some midbass drivers or 6,5"subs that have dual 4 ohm voice coils and replace them that way.
94Hawk213 01-27-2007, 02:59 PM I don't know what the dual 4 ohm voice coils mean. What advantages do they offer? I would like a full range of sound in my car, with the bass in back. Are these found under just "speakers" on Crutchfield's website, for example? Thanks for all your help, btw. Forgive the retarded questions.

DVC 4 ohm subs or midbass drivers will work there the best because of the factory amp and speakers.
The factory speakers you have are DVC 4 ohm speakers in the rear sails - 4 wires to each speaker (8 total wires)....also, the 2 voice coils are run off of TWO separate channels in the factory amp... replacing them with DVC 4 ohm speakers would simply just make it much easier. The above thread shows some pictures that might help you out.
94Hawk213 01-28-2007, 04:49 PM Awesome, thanks. From what I saw, it looks like the only company that makes 6" subs is Elemental Designs. Am I right?

there are others...that's just the best I know of that replaces our sail speakers -- they are 6.5"
search 6.5" midbass drivers/subs on ebay, you'll see others exist....mostly all midbass stuff (don't buy any of the ebay ones though (audiopipe, etc))
94Hawk213 01-29-2007, 04:16 PM I was thinking about putting the MTX Audio ThunderForm CF10A sub in the rear. This would give me the low frequencies. Should I still put those mid-bass speakers in the middle? That would give me components in the front, mids in the middle, and subs in the back. From what I would guess, this would give me a good overall sound. Am I correct in that assumption? Thanks again!
fredmr39 01-29-2007, 10:20 PM Smaller subs like that MTX Audio ThunderForm CF10A would be complemented extremely well with the eD's IMO. They wouldn't really be mids, but you could always cut out the lower frequencies later if you wish.
