Where can I buy methanol?

Looking to do a meth injection kit for my Supercharged Z this year. I already have the kit picked out I want to use, but am wondering where I can buy the methanol? I have heard of some people running blue washer fluid, but I really want to stick with the pure methanol, and mix it with distilled water. I have heard you can find it at some hardware stores, and that some Lowes or Home Depot stores may have it. After looking at some hardware stores, and a Lowes, I have yet to find it anywhere.

Anyone know I can buy this? I wouldn't be opposed to even buying it online.

you should be able to get it at a local racing kart shop. at least during the racing season.

I found it at a Farm/tractor supply place here. They put it in a lot of tractor tires. Don't know if that will help in NJ though

hmmm.... Yeah, there's not as much farmland out here in NJ, as in TN. And I'm not sure about the racing kart think either. I really appreciate the input fellas, but I don't think either of those suggestions is going to work for me.

There must be a million chemical supply houses in NJ. That's where to get it. A good hardware or paint store can probably order it, but it will be very costly there. Locally, I buy it by the 55 gallon drum for ~$2.50-3/gallon. It's ~$5/gal by the 5 gallon can. Probably closer to $10/g at a paint or hardware if they have to order it.

Well, I have found an online site that sells methanol( http://www.cqconcepts.com/chem_methanol.php ). However, it is REALLY expensive!

After looking a while I guess the liquid HEET is also 99.9% methanol. If nothing else, I guess I could buy this, although after getting 5 gallons worth here and there, that may also become expensive.

Does it matter if I change who I get the methanol from once my car is tuned on the meth? I am guessing it doesn't matter as long as the % of methanol (trying to stay with 99.9% meth) is the same.

There is no need to be concerned about what "brand" of methanol you are using. Even the industrial grade stuff is like 99.9+% pure methanol. It is a simple single chemical compound, not a complex blend of complex molecules like gasoline.

I am trying to say that even basic "commercial grade" methanol IS very pure. At least 99.85% actually (I just looked at the label on the drum in the shop). Of the remaining max 0.15%, most of it (~0.1%) is water. So, even the least pure is plenty pure enough. The above is what I run my race car on and use for a co-mixture with water as an injection fluid. Again, methanol is a simple chemical compound and one brand will be completely interchangale with another, not like gasoline.

Thanks for clearing that up Rich. I have found it available locally. Now I just need to find it somewhere for cheep, and not $7 a gallon like some people are charging.

that above site .. the first one was at 6.32 a gallon. the biggest problem you will probably run into if you do not get it local and you roder from some place will be the shipping charge since it is a Hazmat load.. ussually costs about half again as much for shipping.

I get mine from atco in a 55 gallon drum. that has been the cheapest thing for me to do, and they even help you load it up.

If you can hang on for a short amount of time, I'll have that info as soon as the TT kit goes on the Vette with the ECS Meth kit. I'm talking to the installer and he's going to give me a suppliers info who ships the stuff I believe about 20 gallons at a time. It may be pricey but should last for quite a while too.

I did some research. There's actually a TON of people who supply it and ship it. Most of the people who ship it though cost WAY too much (added price on shipping makes the meth over $10 a gal!). There's one or two who don't charge too much to ship, however I will probably only be getting 5-10 gal at a time, so its in my best interest to just go pick it up an save $ on having it shipped. I've found a cheep supplier in Trenton ($3.10 a gallon), and another in Ft. Wayne ($2.99 a gallon).

I need to know now what the regulations are on storing it. There's only so much you can store, and travel with without having to get a permit. I'm quite sure a 55 gallon drum exceeds that limit and forces you to get a permit.

They are a hardware/ piping store and when I worked on the rigs we used to put some in our air lines so any moisture in there would not freeze. it was only like 7$ for a 5 gal bucket. So, I wonder if any air hose sales place/ fittings carriers could have it in stock... that is it i guess

iv seen meth at my local race track its like 4.50 a gallon though.

Race tracks are usually good places to pick up the methanol, but as you stated, they usually capitalize on it, and the charge you out the wazoo.
