on the firebird 97 V6 3.8 the oil pressure sender is located below the serpentine belt.. just to the driver side of the oil filter.. little black circular thing with a wire harness attached to the end, kind of looked like an O2 sensor.
I repalced mine a while back and it was about $20 soemthing at the parts house. just out of curiosity what OBD code did it throw as it is could be a circuit??

I have the same problem on my truck, first time I saw it I freaked out a little bit and tossed a mechanical gauge on there to confirm pressure.
Of course the first time it decided to quit working was the first time I started it after I had just replaced the connecting rod and main bearings.
Some times it still goes out while driving, it has a bad wire some where. I am going to toss it and install a mechanical gauge in its place.
