Anyone ever gone from a 3.4 to a 3.8?

I need a motor for my 3.4 car. Cam went flat again. Same lifter goes about every 10k miles or so. It is obvioulsdy a block problem or an oiling problem at this point.

I might have a chance to get a couple of 3.8L out of 97 cars. What will I need other than the obvious motor, harness, cpu, tranny?

Crossmember is the same, need mounts, but converting to OBD2...pretty much clears you to be defined as clinically insane. I think the OBD2 cars have a body control module (chassis computer) that figures into the equation as well.

For the work of replacing both an engine and tranny, plus being that the 3.8L is no easy piece to pull a tune up on, you may as well go LT1. If you must swap engines. Of course, I just won a 3.4L drivetrain for $50 on Ebay. That made my LT1 swap pretty much history.

It has to be a six cylinder. Other wise it'll end up like my 94 Z and blowed up 90% of the time because I make it try to go fast. When it is a V6, it stays stock because it is pointless.

I'm doing one right now... just got the 3.4 and 3.8 out I need a new k member becuase mine was bent in a wreck and then the 3.8 is going in.

The car the 3.8 is going in is gutted otherwise I would not want to do the swap since you need to replace the interior wiring harness. Taking out and putting back in the dash is more painful to me than 10 engine swaps.

I'm pretty much taking EVERYTHING over from my 3.8 car

And I resent your statement that its not worth it to mod a 3.8
j/k

To answer your question though I think you pretty much covered it since 97s still have throttle cables... You'll need motor mounts like said above

Also the 3.8 is the easiest engine I've ever worked on... way easier than my lt1 and WAY easier than the 3.4 and 3.1s I used to have :(

No, don't get me wrong. The 3800's are a good V6. It's that damn flat tappet 3.4 that's is pointless. I mean, it is based off of GM's worst V6, the old 2.8. Blah!

I hated my 95 3.4 and thats why this 94 3.4 is getting the 3.8 asap!
