Threads like these are why I hate web polls.

Well I am glad that you posted in it.

Foreign automakers continue to sell more and more cars in the United State s at the expense of domestic car companies. The share of cars sold in the United States by the Big Three has dropped from seven in 10 in 1998, to just more than half in 2006.

Would you consider buying your next car from a U.S. manufacturer?

Yes. American cars have closed the gap in quality.

No. Foreign cars are better built and more reliable.81
Maybe. I buy the best car for my needs.60
Total Vote: 392

I voted domestic, of course, but I'm not sure why. No, not the domestic part of it, but the "I took time to do it at all" part - this type of poll is assinine in that it really seeks no valid feedback at all - the disclaimer says unscientific, ya think?

If I had known, or (thought about) its scope, I probably would have skipped it. It's that pointless.

It makes me wonder, what, if anything they are going to do with these results.

Whats the definition of a domestic car? Shouldnt it be a car designed specifically for this market and made here no matter what brand? Or is it just the big 3, even if the car is made somewhere else?

Use them to make news if the results create a big enough slide towards imports, or domestics. One way or the other, if it's a landslide, they could use it.

I think we may have altered the results. I'm not saying people would not vot for American cars but its a landslide win right now and based on the relitivley low number of votes I think the forums like this one have drummed up support on the net rather than the average ABCnews surfer actually voting.

I love the results but just based on how they look it wouldn't seem to be accurate since we know public opinion isn't pro-Detroit that much. If so they wouldn't be in financial trouble.

So to answer the question I don't think anything will be done with the results.

The point is that now they know we are out there - watching them and calling them on their bias.

But on the flipside dont you think the media has offered up plently of negative publicity on the Big 3? I really feel they have given the general public a biased view toward the Detriot folks.

Well, if the imports win, then there may be a news segment. If the domestics win, this little poll might just disappear.

Im pretty sure it would disappear if domestic won because i think thats not the answer there looking for.

That's pretty much how I see the bias in the various U.S news media.

You guys are aware that both JD Power and Gallup (IIRC) just released "scientific" polls about this, right?

Oh I agree 100% and thats why I think the poll results were a bit skewed because it seemed that the pro-domestic web pages like this one had it linked. I obviously voted for the American brands as many here did but is that a true reflection of the ABC News voter, whom probably has a negative domestic bias, probably not.

I do think it is working. I doubt this increase in good reports is any coincidence! Yeah I think domestic does mean The Big 3.......err......2.5, for anyone on here, who might be "confused".

I agree, but hope they would one day, see the err in their way!
